Summary
Of course they had seen all of Adam's greatest faults, each gap in his perfection, but now those were getting few and far between. He never missed a beat, never stopped moving, but Charlie feared that one day he’d fumble or fall or get checked too hard and the ice would crack for everyone to see.
And when the ice does crack, it leaves Adam and Charlie drowning as they drift apart from each other without knowing if that's really what they want.

It wasn’t fair. Charlie knew that, deep down. Adam hadn’t asked to be thrown into varsity; he hadn’t asked to be part of this mess, to be yanked from the Ducks to join the older team. But knowing that didn’t make it hurt any less. Knowing it didn’t stop the bitterness that festered in Charlie’s chest as he spotted Adam standing outside the campus gates, looking like he was waiting for something–or someone.
Charlie’s fists clenched at his sides as he approached, footsteps heavy and full of purpose. Adam didn’t notice him at first, but when he did, his blue eyes widened in surprise.
“Charlie,” Adam called out, his voice calm but cautious, like he was trying to avoid setting off a bomb.
Too late.

It just...there was no way out, it felt like. There was nowhere he could turn to or someone to turn to to take some of this pressure away. Technically, he had Adam. Adam understood. He knew what Charlie was going through because he was dealing with the same thing himself.

Adam and Charlie are having a difficult time adjusting to everything. Bombay is off at his new job. The new coach is a jerk and Eden is definitely not where they belong. Especially for Charlie. During a driving lesson, Charlie and Adam get into a car accident and it's uncertain as to whether Charlie will pull through or not. It makes everyone realize a thing or two.
