She smiled a small, shy smile and Tom felt a broad grin spread across his own face. There was a warmth between them. This kind of thing didn't happen to Tom. He had agreed to get out of his apartment for once to attend a Christmas Eve party. His friend Jude said it would do him good to meet some people. But making small talk at the party was as awful as always, and soon he was climbing onto the fire escape just to get away.
And then he met Tiff. And now they were on the roof. Wherever he went next, he wanted it to be with her.
