The Phoenix Guard, a sympathetic Ozai faction, has tried (and failed) to assassinate Fire Lord Zuko and ultimately restore Ozai to his throne. Their usual intimidation methods and attacks aren’t working and so they have no choice but to try something a little different.
Kidnapping the unrightful Fire Lord’s friend, the Water Tribe warrior, and using his life as the bait to lure the soon to be deposed Fire Lord alone into the catacombs is the perfect plan. And when the night ends with two bodies buried deep underground and the rightful Fire Lord and Phoenix King Ozai freed, all will be set right once more.
Unfortunately for the Phoenix Guard, it’s not going to be quite so easy.

“You’ll pay for what you did to my brother,” a deep voice says as McGee tries to wiggle out of his restraints.
His whole body is aching, and he has no idea what happened. He was walking to his car to get to work, but he never made it out of the parking garage. He’s still a little fuzzy, but is quickly coming back to his senses.
“Do you have anything to say for yourself?”
More silence. McGee can’t see what’s happening, but he can see Tony tied to a chair next to him. He’s coming to as well. Then the man talking pulls back a curtain, and McGee can see Gibbs and Ziva, both tied to chairs as well. Ziva is awake, but Gibbs’ head is tipped down to his chest.
“Oh look, he’s awake. Now you get to watch. Should I start with him?” he asks, turning to Ziva.
She glares back, her eyes a little glassy. Then the man grabs McGee’s hair. He yanks his head back, something making a horrible snapping noise, pain exploding through his head and spine. He chokes on a gasp as the man holds a knife up to his throat.
Someone from Ziva's past catches up to her, but can she protect the others from his plans of revenge?

Crowe could not unsee the picture of Nyx being flung away like he weighed absolutely nothing. He had gone flying faster than a human being should. The sound of him crashing into a wall at that speed, seeing him drop like a limb rag doll cut from its strings and not moving… Crowe wasn’t sure if her brain had imagined the noise of bones snapping but it had made her sick to her stomach. She had screamed his name but he had just laid there motionlessly, none of them knowing if he was even still alive.
Nyx gets badly hurt on a mission gone sideways and the Glaives try to get him back to Insomnia without any backup. It doesn't help that Nyx barely remembers anything and both his health and his consciousness are constantly hanging by a thread.

I’ll distract them with these, and follow.”Jack looks unhappy with the plan, but there’s really nothing else to do except run back to the unkempt wilderness zone at the edge of the property and hope they can disappear into the trees. And that plan still sounds worse. “Fine,” Jack agrees. “But you better be quick about following me. I’m not flying out of here by myself.”
Mac gives him a pat on the shoulder as he picks up his three half-constructed smoke grenades, balancing them on one arm so he can pick up the jug containing the final component in his other hand. “I’ll be right behind you. As long as you can fly that plane, we’ll be fine.”
