“It’s not.” Their voice comes out a little clipped and short. They draw in a deep breath, if only to calm themselves, conscious of not causing trouble before the clock hits midnight, and they add, “I’m here with a friend. For a friend, really.”
Doc raises an eyebrow. “And where is that friend now?”

X didn’t know how long he’d been working. He didn’t know how many bugs he’d fixed, how many lines he’d rewritten. He didn’t even know what day it was. Anything recent had blended together into the giant mush of nothingness that was his life.
He was so tired. His eyes hurt and his movements were sluggish. The lines of code were beginning to blur together into a meaningless pattern of black and white. Even when he could see the words it was hard to piece together their meanings. He’d been reading for so long that some words were beginning to look like random series of symbols rather than actual words.
He needed a break. He was so tired. Even just a 2 hour nap would be better than this. He’d been responding to bugs non-stop for… a long time. Too long. He promised himself that the moment this was no longer necessary for people’s safety he’d go to bed. But first: Impulse’s code.

Their gaze darts to his lap for a brief second; he clearly wasn’t as sneaky as he thought. But Zero_One lifts a single finger to its lips, winking at him, and says nothing.
Rust decidedly does not feel hot under the collar.

He closed the book and grabbed his comm, clicking into his messages. He knew they were having movie night today (it was a Saturday tradition), but he once again had forgotten the starting time.
His stomach growled, and he ignored it, continuing to search for the time. After a moment, he found it. He wanted to be there before 8 PM, which was in about an hour. He was pretty much ready to go, but got up anyway. He should probably eat before he went… he tromped down the hallway to the cellar. When he opened the freezer’s lid, the smell immediately hit him. It was strong and sickening, and X gagged, feeling his stomach turn. He slammed the lid shut, a last wave of air hitting him. Bracing himself against the wall, he took in a few deep breaths through his mouth. When he was feeling better he went back upstairs and sat on the couch, curling one leg up close to his body. So animal blood was already off the table… He frowned. He hated drinking human blood, but unfortunately there was only so long he could drink alternatives before he began to get sick.
