Basically an excuse to write RoboCat interactions because that dynamic needs more attention. And it's also about Catra finding an identity for herself, working through some shit, et cetera specifically in the context of a (more or less) non-romantic relationship because that too is underexplored, in my opinion.
Shouldn't get too heavy though.

Summary
The fire climbs to an even greater height, crackling and whipping in the light desert breeze. Catra watches it with rapt attention, fearful to let her gaze linger on Adora for too long.
“But we don’t have to fight, you know,” Adora says. “I mean...what’s the point of it now? There’s no rebellion here. And no Horde. There’s just you and me, and a lot of things that wouldn’t hesitate to kill either of us.”
“So, what?” demands Catra. “We pretend to be a team again? After everything?”
“If it keeps us alive,” says Adora. “I’m willing to put all that aside if you are.”
Catra and Adora end up exiled to the Crimson Waste together. If they're going to conquer gangs, quicksand, serpents, and other desert threats, they'll need to learn to trust one another again.

Adora transfers for her senior year to Brightmoon High School, she is scared, she doesn't know anything outside the Horde Academy, she has a remaining question at the back of her mind. What would people think of her when they realize she came from the horde? So she is quite reserved and doesn't talk about her personal life, yet people would want to get to know her when she transforms into an unstoppable force on the soccer field. Also she sucks at her Spanish classes, and she needs to pass them in order to play on the team. She needs a Tutor.
Catra has… complicated feelings, as a Latina WOC, a foster kid and a top student in most of her classes, sometimes people can get onto her nerves or she can hurt them without meaning to and never apologize, so she doesn't express her feelings outside of her tight group of friends, the only way you can make her talk is through music. So why is she willing to confide in a new random jock blonde girl that just happens to appear in most of her classes?
They meet under school circumstances but they bond due to their feelings they keep shut inside a box.
…Or the tutor AU where Catra gets to curse at Adora in Spanish, because she can.

Adora smiled weakly. “I guess. You get me. You’re not… like other girls,” she murmured. Then panic lit her eyes. “I mean! No! Like! Not that there’s anything wrong with other girls! Like. Girls are awesome! They’re all great and feminism and whatever, I just mean-” She stopped when Catra threw her head back in that perfect squeaking laugh of hers. Adora loved that laugh more than air.
“Oh my fucking God, you’re bad at this,” Catra teased.
Adora laughed weakly. “Yeah. I am. I guess. because I never tried for anyone else. No one else understood me. Or made me feel cared for… or valued for who I was over what I could do for them… I've never wanted anyone else… not like I want you.”
Catra smiled softly, eyes full of affection. “So. How long have you been in love with me?”
