    Sasha takes off her glasses, hands coming up to rub at very tired eyes. She went to hospital, she’s been in physiotherapy, her leg still hurts. Police have been coming and going from the Institute, one particular set of police mind, she’s started to recognise the specific constables and detectives, especially the one with short cropped hair and the other with the hijab. Sasha’s not sure if it’s a good thing or not that they seem to know their way around already.

    She’s not sure of anything, especially not the people in her own office.

    “Folklore.” Jon was always quick to correct any idea that he imagined that such things were real. “And, actually, my thesis is focused more on animal representations in lore, than on ghosts, per se. Though there is often a connection with the dead.”

    Plenty of creatures in the legends he was studying were omens of death, for example, or could convey souls to the afterlife. While others didn’t bother so much with all the looming and howling and the inducing of nameless dread and simply went straight for the throat.
