It’s Robin who says the words. And really, she doesn’t even know why— well, she does know why (she’s angry and she wants Steve to know, she’s hurt and she wants to hurt him back)— they just spill out of her like particularly nasty word vomit.
Without the context of the rest of the story, Steve won’t understand why they’re meant to hurt, just that they should: I wish you would disappear!Maybe she should’ve been more careful. She doesn’t truly mean them, but words have power, after all. And tomorrow— tomorrow they’ll both apologize and everything will be back to normal. But right now, Robin wants Steve to feel the hurt grasping at her chest, wants him to feel that same despair of being alone, of being a freak. She will tear and crack and peel away at whatever he thinks he can’t be, until Steve realizes just how stupid he’s being.
“I wish the goblins would come and take you away! Right now!”
