Summary
The wisp disappeared. And another one took its place a few feet away. This one was closer but still far enough away that William couldn’t distinguish anything about it except the blue aura of light that surrounded it and the flames that flickered and rose into the air.
It disappeared quicker this time, too quick for William to study it and try and decide what it wanted. But just as soon as it was gone, another appeared in the same pattern as the last, but instead of getting closer to William, it was getting closer to the door.
They were trying to lead him somewhere.

Summary
So really, William had worse problems to deal with. His headache wasn’t the biggest concern. But god, did his head hurt.
One moment, William swore that he had barely managed to check the three of them into a motel nearby with what money he had. He had made some sort of agreement with Dakota and Vyncent (that William was really struggling to remember) while they were trying to settle in the room and figure out where to go from there.
And then now, William was here… somehow (he honestly didn’t remember the walk here, that probably wasn’t very good).

There's a doctor with blank eyes who never looks at you,

Everything you say, he documents, even when you're not talking to him.
You don't smoke, but you still go out for smoke breaks with everyone else on the ward because there's nothing else to do but stare at the walls, and wait for the next group session to start.
So you hang out in the courtyard, not smoking cigarettes but still befriending those who do.
And there's a man,
Maybe ten years older than you, with eyes like rough-cut pine and sunset.
He notices you don't smoke, so he tries to stay downwind from you so he doesn't exhale in your face.
He tells you "it's okay, bud."
"We'll get through this and be better when we leave this place than it was when we got here."
And he's telling you the truth.

Summary
Vyncent missed his world. He missed his mother and father, the Greats and just the familiarity of it all. But he’s stuck on this planet with so little magic in the middle of a dystopia. And he can’t help but feel guilty for it.
Dakota wanted to help people. Ever since the first reports of this plague came on the news, he had. But none of his heroes took him seriously or included him, despite saving people like they do. All he had to do was prove himself.
William regretted not dying. Now stuck with a stupid bite that got him sent away to die, he can’t help but wish he just would. But for whatever reason he’s still here, still himself. And he’d be damned if he didn’t find out why.
Ashe was alone. As far back as he could remember, it was just him and Mark, though he was always distant. But he had a power that could help everyone if he just had the opportunity to use it. All he needed was a chance.
Four teens put together by circumstance and stuck together by fate, all with their own motives and secrets to hide. Will they fight through the hardships and waves of zombies together, or will they tear each other apart from the inside?

He felt Vyncent put a hand on his shoulder, making William jump as his adrenaline spiked for a moment.
"Are you okay, Will?"
William felt sweat drip down his neck. "Yeah, yeah- yeah- I'm all good. I'm all good." He said quickly, as the same anxious feeling held him in a vice grip.
"Alright, you just seem a bit jumpy." Vyncent said, concern in his eyes.
"Really?" William said, trying to brush off his friend's concern. "Me? Jumpy? I'm not jumpy. I'm fine. I'm totally fine. I'm chill, actually. Very chill."
William jumped again when he saw something moving from an alley, and turned his head to look at it. He only saw it for a moment before it slithered into the darkness.

Other than his parents, Tide was the only person who knew William Wisp was transgender, and Will was determined to keep it that way. It was never a huge issue, apart from what he so eloquently referred to as hell week.
Unfortunately, Tide was out of town when William woke up that morning with a sharp throbbing in his abdomen. He groaned. He always knew it was coming. Still, every month, he still hoped it wouldn’t.

He wasn’t even wearing his binder today. William had woken up, thrown on a clean shirt and then his hoodie, and ended the morning curled up on the couch as his organs seemed like they were waging war on themselves.
Everything hurt. Life is pain. William had no current intentions of leaving his spot on the couch anytime soon, not until he could even roll onto his back without the cramps getting worse. He continued to silently lament to himself, chewing on the inside of his mouth as the TV show continued to play.

His cheeks were burning up like he had been crying. There was still a slight sheen of sweat that coated his skin, causing him to shift uncomfortably, and the sheets had been kicked off the bed.

At one point it had been springtime. When the trees still had the early buds and the air was crisp with the remnants of winter that were just beginning to warm. The snow had all melted and the ground was decently thawed, leaving large pools of mud that squelched beneath curious shoes.
William couldn’t even hide the excitement in his steps as he began the walk home from school.
He would get home, make something to eat, and watch tv until the sun was just beginning to dip towards the horizon, long stretches of pink and orange splaying across the sky, and then he was off.

There were still blankets on the floor, and William was stepping on the pile still. He should fold them up and put them away. They had a closet in the hallway for blankets, that’s where they were supposed to go. Then he could come back and finish cleaning his room.
But he had to stop feeling like he was floating away first, unable to open his eyes in fear of seeing the room spinning around him. He was dizzy.
A hand pressing against his shoulder barely registered, but William could feel someone there. It caused his heart to skip a beat, the presence unable to filter in through the haze of his mind.
