But sometimes he feels like this and he doesn’t know what else to do but give in. To put himself as close to Richie as possible. To get in his space. Be a nuisance. Draw Richie’s attention towards him so he can feel the strange high it creates, the way his heart seizes in his chest when Richie looks at him long enough and his skin gets all electrified when Richie touches him.
The intensity of it always scares him. Makes him feel brittle and fragile, like a moth's wings. He could just give in.
Sometimes he does give in.
That's what scares him the most, is when he can't resist temptation.
He prays loudest during the “Our Father” to make sure his mom can hear him pleading with a God that doesn't exist to lead us not into temptation.

But uh, I can still remember the ropes. If you wanted to get a cat together, I’d even be happy to, ya know, take the little guy to get tested, if that was what you needed...”
“Oh God,” Eddie buries his face in his hands. Well, Richie’s definitely talking about what he’s talking about, at least.

Maggie ignored what everyone said, she kept to herself while grocery shopping and tried her best to block the sound of the women from the church bad mouthing everything that breathed. So much for treating others the way you want to be treated. Doesn’t the Bible say that ? Maggie doesn’t really know. But sometimes she does overhear what the women say even if she doesn’t pass it on. She observes them as the giggle like school-girls (as they make fun of a school girl) and make snide remarks such as:
“If my daughter acted that way I don’t know what I’d do”
“I think it’s what not having a strong female influence can do to a girl.”
“Did you hear what the boys at school call her?”

It wasn’t even really the fact that he was gay that sent him into a full on crisis, it was the fact that it was Richie of all people.
You just had to go and get a crush on your best friend, huh? Nice going, dumbass. Richie, who was loud and obnoxious, who teased him non-stop, who made inappropriate jokes about fucking his mother, who ruffled his hair and kissed his cheek just to annoy him, who called him Eddie Spaghetti.
He fucking liked Richie Tozier.
This was dangerous. Richie was his best friend, and you weren’t supposed to get feelings for your best friend, especially if you’re both boys.
So no one could find out. This was a secret that would live and die with him, even if it meant being slowly eaten away until he withered down to bones.

“Real love is a monster, Richie.” Bev shakes her finger at him, “One day you’re gonna meet someone that you want to tear apart with your teeth and they’re gonna let you.”

Mike Hanlons journal, entry number 1
August 25, 1992.
A week from today will be the three year mark of the day we put the clown to rest. Three weeks from today will mark the three year anniversary of the death of The Losers Club. Well, mostly. That day was the last day we all had hung out as a group, save for the few times we tried speaking to one another before getting the memo that the group was done.

After high school started the losers stopped hanging out. Some of them had their reasons for drifting, others only drifted in response; not knowing why. But Mike won’t have it.
He started to journal each of their behavior and things he noticed in attempt to figure out the issues and bring them back together. The universe did that for him, though, when a fight lands all 7 of them in detention together. All the unknown reasons, miscommunications, assumptions, mysteries, and pain were all resolved in Saturday detention.
Mike Hanlon didn’t have much to journal after that.
