Conrad looked up from his list. And then, he did the unthinkable from any surgery resident who ever lived.
He smiled.
It wasn't a big smile by any means, just a slight pulling of his lips up and to the side, a crinkle appearing in the outside of his right eye.
"What did you need me for then, Dr. Conklin?" he said, and oh it was silly, and she was a whole twenty-five years old, but her cheeks were suddenly on fire and the mark on her wrist seemed to pulse even more quickly.

He’d felt a flash of jealousy, watching them skip and swing and collapse into a puddle on the floor, laughing. Laurel had reached over and brushed a wayward strand of hair out of Susannah’s face. He had looked away, feeling heat rise to his cheeks, and had run back up the stairs as quietly as he could. Like he’d seen something he wasn’t supposed to. Like he’d seen something he would understand far too well one day.

Running away to Paris was one of the best decisions Belly could have made at that time. Was she a coward, leaving only a note for her ex-fiancé saying sorry? Yes. Did she have to block every single person on her contact list, apart from her mother? Also yes. But she needed a fresh start, to find herself, and enjoy everything that France had to offer her, especially since she had walked out the day before her wedding and spent the night previously with the best man.
She needed this change to breathe once more, to get past the mistakes she made, to move forward and stop obsessing over the Fisher brothers. Sadly, the universe is twisted and enjoys reminding her of those mistakes.
