“What game do we play?” Lance asked quietly, defeated. It felt wrong to put the choice on Keith, they were both as clueless and taken by surprise. But Kieth always had a plan, whether it was reckless or not. If any of them would know what to do it would be Keith.
“A simple one. We’ll play with just one marble. Whoever gets it closest to the wall wins” Keith gestured to the brick wall near them.
“Who goes first?”
“You. You’re numbers lower” he reasoned logically. Emotionless. Too caught up in facts and reality to let the vulnerability of the situation show. It annoyed him. Unfortunately, it was just like Keith to disconnect and make it easy for the others to hate him.
In a way, that was the nicest thing Keith could do in the situation.

“Death is inevitable,” the stranger responded, “made all the more tragic when one’s time comes before it was meant to.”
“I don’t care for cryptic bull shit right now"
“Hm,” the stranger hummed. “I’ve seen soul mates grieve less than you do for your brother. Your bond must be great, indeed. So I will offer you a deal.”
“A deal?”
“If you help me and become my apprentice, I will return your brother’s life to you.”

( This was all inspired by the book Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy! I read that book and was immediately hooked! The dynamic reminded me so much of Lance and Keith with the rivalry I NEEDED to write a fic with this concept inspired by it)
