Hawke peered around them, the stairs to the Viscount's keep looming nearby. Even with an estate in Hightown and bestowed an honorary title, she always felt a little out of place in the more affluent areas. Stinking of booze, all she wanted to do was crawl back into bed and sleep it off as the Maker would have intended.
"What are we even doing here?" Hawke whined. "Let me go and die in peace, will you?"
Isabela turned to the stairs. "You know as well as I do, before you can start a job, a little research needs to be done."
"Research…on what?"
The grin that stretched across Isabela's face didn't reassure Hawke.
"Guardsman Donnic."

Varric shields his surprise with a laugh. He and Hawke have always had good banter, it’s why they've gotten along so well for so long. But something in her voice seems more serious than usual, and he worries the stress of their situation is finally getting to her.
“Now Hawke,” He glances to the side where Bianca rests against his pack within arms’ reach, “You’d better be careful, Bianca is a jealous lady.”
Hawke lets her hand drop and looks at him thoughtfully, “Is she? The real one I mean, not your crossbow.”
Varric’s eyebrows fly up. “I’m a one-crossbow kind of guy, Hawke, you know that.”
Hawke just nods and looks back at the fire, “I know.”

An unexplained event drops people from Earth, or “outlanders”, into Thedas. Especially in Kirkwall, most were assumed to be demons or abominations and killed on sight. But Elaine has managed to survive. Once a skilled paralegal working to advance her career in law, she now works to stay under the radar and avoid Plot Nonsense.
That plan is ruined when she finds herself helping after a catastrophe at the Bone Pit overwhelms the free clinic in Darktown. Another outlander has become an ‘oracle’ claiming to tell the future, and she decides she can’t keep hiding her head in the sand.
What follows is a mostly lighthearted game of cat and mouse as Elaine tries to help the mages oppressed by the Chantry, figure out what the other outlander is doing, and survive a few unexpected challenges along the way.
