The smile on Beef’s face dropped like a faded letter on a glowing sign, rare but noticeable.
“It’s… something I don’t talk about often.” Beef sighed, letting his shoulders sink. “Kind of a difficult subject.”

Out of every person in the world, Etho was the unlucky bastard to be shoved front and center.
1683 humans left on the Ares Mission, 1682 returned. Humanity couldn’t care less about Etho, not anymore. So here he was, trapped, caged, watched. He was an oddity, he was dangerous, unheard of, and he was a trading card.
No one knew how important one little human could be, after all, no one besides humans had ever seen humans. Etho was a pioneer for the human race, and he was…. hiding under a bed…

Summary
Etho reaches out and grabs it carefully, holding the sword between his fingers without letting the blade touch his palm. Not that it would matter if Bdubs decided to attack - it’s still aimed upward, toward Etho's heart, so slicing a hand would be the least of his worries. The sword is a little warm where one side had rested against Bdubs' leg.
"Just being honest." Face partially covered, he wears his smile in the looseness of his shoulders, the casual lean in his stance. "I thought you liked messing around, but I guess I was wrong."
A series of semi-connected oneshots centered around Etho and Bdubs from the earliest days, if they'd been a little bolder.

Joel is left alone when the Apocalypse strikes. He’s devastated - having lost Lizzie, and doesn’t know what to do with himself.
Joel does know, however, that he’s going to prove to the Watchers that he’s strong, and that he’s sick of their games. He’s going to survive and win this one, just to show that toying with his friends and loved ones is wrong.
He comes across Etho accidentally and is almost killed by him when they get ambushed by the bloodthirsty undead, and are forced to flee together.
They journey together and warm up to each other slowly, until their friendship grows into something more.
Joel and Etho are faced with numerous challenges and difficulties, and they struggle to stay alive.
Will both of them make it? After all, the rules are there: Only one can win.
(This is, in a way, related to the life series. However, please note that the events of this story are taken place in the real world (with fictional elements) so no Minecraft rules were taken into consideration. Not only that, but the life series concept is only briefly present, so it should not be your first point of reference. Thank you.)
