    No matter how many close calls they had, the adrenaline tasted the same. Any moment, he’d feel the familiar burn of life returning to him.

    A feather floated down to him. In his fading state, he assumed it was his salvation and reached for it. As he brought the shape in, which had only been a silhouette against the mixture of smog and light pollution above, he realized something was wrong.

    Phoenix Down wasn’t black.

    Soot was his first guess, soot was what he wished it was, but he knew better.

    The feather ignited anyway.

    Finally resting in the peacefulness of the hostel, one of the good things Cloud found during his time in Avalanche, they had many allies, many supporters who liked the purpose of the group, allowing the much needed rest, after the many things that happened on Midgar.

    It had been hard, of course, but he wouldn't change it for anything. The feeling of defeating Sephiroth with the help of his close friends was incredibly satisfying, at the same time disturbing, knowing what he said to Cloud just after the battle when they were alone.

    Sephiroth never dies, and he plan to really destroy Cloud.

    Cloud woke up within a bombardment of his senses less coherent than a dream.

    Moonlight illuminated the scene, surreal under the stars, a too sweet floral scent on the wild breeze. Grasses swayed around him like the ocean’s surface, silver and beautiful in a way the sun could never enchant them. He spun around, blinking rapidly as he tried to decipher if the world around him was even moving at all or if he was so dizzy he couldn’t tell.

    His ribs were tight with every inhale.

    The suffocating pressure around his torso, snuggest at the waist, was familiar, but he had no time to dwell on it as he automatically moved in time to a melody he felt more than heard. His right hand was clasped in another’s, his other hand resting on a shoulder taller than his.

    Most striking of anything else within his sight was a splash of vibrance against the greyscale— mako-tinted eyes so close to his that he could easily make out the aquamarine hues pooled around their narrow pupils.
