Both is no easy feat for them. After being captured by the Kree, Ronan recruits the girl to help him in the trials that are held every fifty years on Hala. Passing means he will become an accuser, and he promises to help set her free if he succeeds. Only they'd never imagined something bigger than themselves, or their beliefs would evolve around another, finding that they are alike. Not even the universe can stop them now.

“You know?” Robert said, his face now shocked and pale. “You know what a freak that boy is and you haven’t executed him yet?”
“Never speak about my husband that way again,” Ronan growled.
“He married a knight?” Robert gasped. He finally looked as afraid as Ronan wanted him.

The principal had said "adult" and "can come in as soon as possible" in the same sentence, and so Blue had contacted the only person she knew who was both over eighteen and not currently at work or at school.
Ronan did not have to be asked twice. He barely had to be asked once—Blue had simply texted 'im getting suspended again', and despite his aversion to cell phones, he had immediately replied 'HA. omw'.

Adam is straightening up to continue down the aisle when the back of his neck prickles—the same way it does when he senses it’s going to rain the next afternoon. Perturbed, Adam turns around and sees his mother.
She’s standing at the mouth of the aisle, clutching a box of screws in her hand. Adam recognizes them as the same sort used for the radiator in the trailer’s kitchen that Adam worked on every winter when it inevitably crapped out. They must finally be fixing that rusty old thing.
Adam’s mother looks as surprised to see Adam as he is to see her. Then her eyes shift to the baby in his arms, and her surprise doubles.
“Mom,” Adam says dumbly.
