Donnie knows he isn't the same as his brothers. That isn't a problem. He's fine being different, once he accepted being different. The thing is, he isn't sure they ever accepted it. And none of his tech accomodations can change the way they think. (Well, technically they can. Donnie tried that once and it did not work out.)
But after a particularly bad fight, Donnie decides that he's done. If his brothers can't work with him, he can work alone. Being a hero is the only thing he's ever needed to be. It's certainly easier than trying to be a brother. One forced to forgive and accept mistakes that are never really resolved. Why should he move on if they never learn? They only learn the hard way, and he knows it.
So he's going to make them learn.

Nearly one year after the Kraang and things have gone back to semi-normal. At least, as normal as could be: Splinter decided he wanted to start enforcing his traditional father role onto his sons. It would have been great--a dream come true, even--if it weren't such strict training that aggravated their chronic issues mixed with Splinter's confusing praise for his sons.Raphael, personally, was not gonna let that slide. He raised those boys from the time they were tots and Raph was barely a child himself, to present day where his brothers are his pride and joy. Raph may have made mistakes, but he will not let his brothers receive the same treatment as he did when he was a child--not when they were finally over their father's lack of attention.

Did they want to be heroes? Yes. It wasn’t much when they asked for a bit of respect but what they didn’t take into account was for fate to screw them over and suddenly finding out they they were destined to rule an alternate fantasy dimension that resembled England and ended up being heir to said kingdom. At least they got a new Sensei that will teach them super cool ninja moves. Those were Mikey’s words not Leo’s.
Note: These are my own version of the heroes in a half shell but be interpreted as any version listed above.

Summary
When he saw their faces emerge in the corner of his eye, that small window of hope that said to him “Everything is gonna be okay” whispered in the very back of his head. It should be okay- but god, it sucked watching them become more and more panicked, more and more scared, more and more desperate.
“Took you guys long enough.” Is what he wanted to say.
Instead, what greeted his brothers with the same amount of enthusiasm in his head was the vermillion covered appendage that got portal chopped.
After closing the portal and stopping the Technodrome, Leonardo never made it back home. His brothers, his father, his friends- they were never the same again. Death will always be a heavy topic, the end of the road.
As for Leonardo, death meant life.
He was rediscovering the world in a perspective outside of the one he knew. The universe worked in numerous ways, including an eternal war. With everything he knew, Leonardo promised to make sure he'd protect the new gems of his second chance in a way he wished he could have for the diamonds of his previous. Even if that meant returning home one day with shame and pride on his chest as he faces his family.

In the movie, they have a fight thst almost turns physical before it’s stopped by Splinter. My thought is though, what if it hadn’t been stopped? What if the fight had happened?
What if the other brothers had continued to try and keep them from harming each other?
And what if one of them got hurt in the process?

The harsh light of the fridge had Leo turning his head to look behind him at the ground.
With his eyes safe from the near blinding light of the fridge, they couldn’t help but notice… shadows?
He frowned at that. From what he could tell, the shadows were from a group of people, most likely his siblings and possibly the girls. But they were asleep or not even in the lair, Leo had checked! But in that case.. who was it?
Hesitantly, he lifted his head, only to be met with-
Turtle mutants.
And a rat.
And two humans.
All of which looked suspiciously familiar but at the same time so unfamiliar and dangerous to him while he was unarmed and they were not.
So, Leo did the only logical thing his sleep deprived brain could come up with.
He grabbed a kitchen knife, and screamed. -

It’s been two months since they defeated the Kraang. Things have been almost normal, asides from everyone stepping on eggshells around each other. They’ve been confined to their new lair for two entire months. It’s only a matter of time until one of them gets restless enough to sneak out— and that’s how Leonardo and Michelangelo somehow ended up opening a cross-dimensional gateway.
Having trapped five different variations of themselves within their world, the Hamato family just got a whole lot bigger! When villains from multiple realtors cause havoc, it’s time to save the world (again). And maybe they can stop by the therapist’s office on the way!

Or, Michelangelo’s being hunted down by almost every single villain possible, wanted for his mystic powers. The Rise boys are freshly traumatized, and are desperate for an ounce of normalcy. The 2012 boys are grieving, and need better coping mechanisms. The 2003 and 1987 deserve a nice, long, uninterrupted nap. Ronin takes a parenting class, and tries to learn how to smile again. The 2007 boys are trying to learn how to function as a proper team again. They all need therapy, and the Foot Clan needs to learn when to quit.
