What if Jaskier wasn’t a bard, but a musician whose charm and chaos mask years of quiet suffering, hunger, fear and wounds he never learned to name? And what if he now happened to be Ciri’s scout leader?
A realistic universe in analogy to the original one, where Geralt and Jaskier learn slowly how to trust, open up and be heard.
This story is currently on hiatus since I haven't been interested in the Witcher lately, I've already planned the chapters, so I'll finish it sooner or later. In the meantime, I'll focus on writing about other fandoms that interest me at the moment :)

Summary
Geralt has definitely made plenty of enemies over the many years of his existence as a Witcher. The crudest of labels - mutant, monster, butcher - have rolled of the tongues of nearly all humans that saw him. There was but one person - a sweet, beautiful bard - who never viewed him as such atrocities. Geralt never understood why Jaskier cared so much for him.
The only thing he understood less than that was how unreasonably in love he was with Jaskier.
But the last time the Witcher allowed himself to be vulnerable, it ended in disaster the day he was dubbed the "Butcher of Blaviken". Geralt thought it best to deny his feelings after that - or, at the very least, to hide them.
It seemed unthinkable that anyone would ever target Jaskier in order to get to Geralt, nor to take any brutal measures to silence him...
...But what if the unthinkable happened?
How would Jaskier deal with losing what he built his life around - his voice? Would Geralt remain steadfast at Jaskier's side and do everything he could to undo the damage, or would guilt end up destroying him? Can a lovestruck Witcher and silent bard - their very existences being oxymoronic - ever recognize their feelings for each other?

Emhyr peers though the plexiglass at the man they removed from Radovid’s castle, barely alive, as a prisoner of war. The man is huddled, his back pressed to the wall, arms wrapped around his legs and his chin propped up on the tops of his knees. He is wide eyed, visibly alarmed when he looks at them, his body tense as a bowstring. His face is thin, hollow and worn, filthy where it looms above his knees. His, very short, hair is plastered to one side of his head with dried or drying blood.
“Who is he?” Emhyr asks the medic at his side.
“We don't know yet, sire.”
