Summary
He walks up a hill towards a bluff. It’s night, but the moon is out, and the stars shine bright. He can see for miles in every direction. In the distance, there are night birds, and the sound of ocean waves hundreds of metres below. Enhanced senses, his dream mind supplies, Not human, supplied shortly after. He feels a pulling in his chest, like a tether, like connection. Wandering up further, he sees what seems to be a clan of people gathered around a cliff face. Their aristocratic garb is nothing short of stunning, compared to Hob’s 80′s Horror themed Pyjama bottoms, and old t-shirt he wears to bed. He mingles amongst them, easily making conversation as though he’s known them his whole life. Family, he thinks. Yes, all these people are family.

A continued exploration of Dream attempting to process the memories and ghosts of the sexual abuse Burgess had his guards commit while imprisoned in Fawney Rig. There are coping mechanisms delved into, along with some setbacks and some progress, as he tries - and the people around Dream try to support him.
There will be a part 3. Eventually.

Hob Gadling, Robert Gadsden in this century, knew better than most the lengths to which some men would go in order to thwart death.
And it offended him, just how often those lengths did more harm to the living than anything else.
So when he heard of a would-be mage, would-be death defier, by the name of Burgess, he insinuated himself into the man’s circle, familiarized himself with the grand house and its secret ways in and out.
Hob had worn the robe and gone through the motions, but he’d mumbled the chants and sacrificed nothing to the effort. ‘Magus’ Burgess might be, but he hadn’t noticed the spy among his coterie.
Burgess himself stole the items from the figure who lay insensate within the circle, left him bared and vulnerable.
Hob had nearly given himself away, gasping when the helm was removed and he recognized the face beneath.

He knew of Roderick Burgess. Every man, woman, child, and dog has heard of The Great Collector and his labyrinth of mythical creatures. Hob had never been rich enough to get invited to the shows and parties Burgess would throw at his mansion. Nor was he ever sneaky enough to attempt pretending he was a nobleman. But Hob knew what happened at those parties by observing others. Listening in on drunken rambles of the aristocracy who enter The White Horse to escape their totally miserable lavish lives.
What a bunch of cunts they are.
But again… a job is a job.
Hob Gadling becomes the new guard of an unknown creature hidden away in Roderick Burgess' dungeon.
But things aren't always as they seem.

There is something terribly inhuman about him, something Ethel can’t define but recognizes on the same level of awareness that knows there is something lurking behind her in the dark.
They keep a tiger in the basement, in a cage of glass and willpower, she thinks to herself, and follows Roderick back upstairs and does not sleep at all that night.

He takes a few steps back and his eyes shift towards Dream. “I’m sorry.” He whispers before turning around and heading up the stairs, one of the guards quickly follows after him, a hand on young man’s back to steady him.
“Alex! Alex, get back here right now!” Roderick hollers back.
He turns to the Endless and growls. “You’re never getting out of here.” Before following after his son.

Roderick Burgess doesn't meet a fatal end and after his son leaves him, things take a dark turn.
In his desperate attempt to take power from his prisoner, Roderick Burgess resorts to twisted ways to force the Endless to give him what he desired: Immortality.
Dream never thought humans capable of such cruelty and yet here he was now scared and in pain, hoping for salvation. -
