Summary
In an alternate timeline, V manages to escape Arasaka Tower alongside Jackie, but he dies shortly after, and V ends up losing the Relic. In this version, Dex misses his shot by mere inches, and V survives—badly wounded—in the landfill. Before passing out, she manages to contact Delamain, who takes her to Viktor. This story begins right there, where V must face an uncertain future without the support of the Relic… or Jackie.

Summary

This fic has some canon events and retells others in a non-canon way. It also follows a brand new storyline that sees River and V team up to solve a crucial missing person's case and do their best to take down an up-and-coming drug ring wreaking havoc across Night City's murky underbelly. The man’s tenor had whispered out low but he’d heard him say the word, the name of the now dead clan. “What about ‘em?” The man was looking out over the desert, a thoughtful expression on his face. That girl that Panam brought with her… her vest, the back of it said Bakkers. His brow creased in thought… “Honestly, I hadn’t been looking at the back of her vest.” He said the words low, muffled as he took another long swig of the harsh liquor.
