Katara quickly squeezed her legs shut and rolled over onto her side before hopping off the bed. “T-Truth or dare.” She tried to pivot the conversation into another direction. “Y-Your turn.” The waterbender coughed nervously, the blush still more than evident on her face.
Zuko kept his eyebrow arched as a smirk spread across his lips. “No way…You were making fun of me for my kink? His voice is rough and loud and would be attractive to any girl but her. The song he chose speaks of a girl who’s shy and needs the writer to rescue her. Based on the slight slur on every second syllable Katara is certain he’s indulged in some alcohol for an additional boost of courage, and she wishes he hadn’t because maybe then he would’ve thought twice about serenading her, doing something she explicitly asked him not to, beneath her window in the middle of fucking winter.
She breaks up with him a week later, encouraged by Suki’s and Toph’s hysterical snorts of laughter at her retelling of the awful, horrible, no-good experience. When he, frustrated and embarrassed, asks her why, she tells him she just got bored of him.
It’s as close to the truth as Katara, kind and giving to her very bones, is willing to tell him. And if it makes Zuko quirk his eyebrow at her, well, all the better.
She bets Zuko wouldn’t do it to her.Or,

Summary
Sokka’s familiar enough with the breathlessness now that it doesn’t surprise him. He knows that today will be a day where he acts. He’ll act ok, he’ll act happy, he’ll act like his heart doesn’t feel like it’s been shifted slightly in the wrong direction.
It’s not healthy, he knows, to hide this. Especially from Zuko, who would understand - and maybe that’s worse, because it means he’s felt this too - and instantly try to get him to stay safe and comfortable in their room.
But that’s exactly why Sokka can’t tell him. He doesn’t need to be coddled. He doesn’t need to be treated like he’s close to breaking because he’s not (he knows what that feels like and it’s so much worse than struggling to take a breath). Everyone went through the war, same as him, and they’ve all endured so much more on top of that that Sokka can’t bring the attention to his stupid inability to complete even the most basic functions necessary to sustain human life.
