Where is he?!
Alastor blinks rapidly, forcing himself back to more coherent awareness than whatever misplaced drivel had momentarily overtaken him. It takes a few beats for him to shake the layers of uncharacteristic grogginess away to confirm that he can definitely see the glow of said city in the windows above him.
The massive, high-arched panes that stretch far beyond human architecture are casting shadows upon a bed that most certainly isn’t his own.
Panic trickling down his spine, Alastor blinks again, bringing his reflection into focus.
Or, rather, theirs.
Aka - the long (sorry) awaited morning after fic for Wicked game. Planning to have this update out before s2 and to continue writing around what happens in the upcoming season! <3

In the aftermath of the Final Extermination, Lucifer attempts to settle into the Hazbin Hotel and his place in Charlie's life, helping her as much as he possibly can, while simultaneously managing what he hopes to be the tail end of his most recent decade long depressive episode.
He should probably be a bit more worried that the Radio Demon manages to bear witness to just about every single one of his panic attacks. At least Alastor doesn't seem to glean any entertainment from kicking him while he is already down. Which really, if you think about it, is surprisingly considerate of him...
And on top of all of that stuff just. Keeps. Happening.

But Childe endures the whispers and the blades, not for himself, but for the people forced to follow him. He’ll play the part of the monster, the shield, the pawn—anything but the broken man he truly is.
He'll hide his mind from the prying eyes of people who want him dead, he'll mask his feelings from the people who twisted the knife in his back, so he can play the best role he's ever gotten. Even if that role humiliated him and stomped on his pride, he'll play it nevertheless. And he'll play it well.
He must, because he has to leave before he loses his mind.
The story doesn’t end with a happy ever after. Not for villains. Not for Childe.
(It does, don't worry, for the ones who don't want to read something unless it has a happy ending. Me too)

Excitement pumps through Childe’s veins as the words are uttered, his casual smile widening into an ecstatic grin. For it to be the Tsaritsa passing this mission along to him directly rather than Pierro– it must be high-stakes.
“You will be going to Liyue,” she says, “to enter a courtship with Rex Lapis.”
What?
Childe swallows harshly, his tongue feeling thick in his mouth.
“Your Majesty, I believe there may be a misunderstanding.”
More like an impossibly large oversight to this whole plan. “Rex Lapis and I… we are not on the best of terms, at the moment.” That’s putting it lightly, though saying as much to his Queen feels immensely childish, and shame surely paints his face a burning red hue. “I do not think he would be pleased to receive me.”
Her expression does not change, and she only answers him with patience. “On the contrary, he has specifically requested you.”

Summary
The truth is that Childe has a secret. The truth is that Childe doesn’t remember much of his time in Liyue. He remembers the boring, seemingly endless paperwork, remembers collecting the sigils of permission that became a crucial part of his plan, remembers the fall of the Geo Archon at the Rite of Descension, summoning the Overlord of Vortex, fighting Lumine at the Golden House, and at the end of it all, finding out that he had been one-upped by Signora, the eighth harbinger.
What he doesn’t remember, however, is everything outside of that. He doesn’t remember how he spent his leisure time in Liyue, what he had for lunch and dinner, how the first Lantern Rite he experienced was like. There are gaps in his memories that he doesn’t know how to fill, periods in his stay in Liyue that feel like endless, dark pits. He had never felt the need to fill the gaps, because all he needs to know is that he had played his part excellently and met all the Geo Archon’s expectations.
But after seeing how concerned the travelling duo looked... he supposes his business trip to Liyue would be a good chance as any to start piecing them together.
And perhaps he could start with this mysterious man named Zhongli.

His earpiece buzzed. “Asking again won’t cause him to arrive faster,” phoned Ratio in an impatient tone. “Why can’t you enjoy gambling on someone else’s dime for a minute or two?”
“Open bar’s calling my name, Owl.” Aventurine lowered his indoor sunglasses to peek at the bar across dozens of tables stretched the distance of the gambling hall. “Fitting reward for a mission well-done.”
The IPC tracks down a wanted arms dealer and poker addict in Edo Star. There’s only one man, rotten with luck, fit for the job of capturing him.
