Just before the doors closed, a tall man stepped inside with dark scrubs, a stethoscope looped loosely around his neck, jaw set tight, and his brow furrowed in an expression that practically radiated ‘don’t talk to me.’
Felix straightened automatically, recognizing him from the whispered conversations at the nurse’s station. Dr. Bang Chan, the new pediatric attending everyone said was brilliant but… perpetually scowling.
It was the first time Felix had seen him in person.

Seungmin’s empty eyes stare up at him. He replays the scene in his head. He sees again the guy run to him with the knife. Sees Jisung stand in front of him.
“It’s not your fault.”
Sees him, by the van, staring at Seungmin with a dumbfounded and surprised look on his face. He sees the patch of red spreading.
“It’s not your fault.”
Except it is.
Or,
Seungmin is captured by a rival gang and one Han Jisung risks it all to save him and perhaps a pair of brothers too.

“Maybe I should pat your head and call you a good boy after you do something too,” Felix jokes, bursting into laughter after he says it.
Chan tries to laugh with him, but his body seems to have other plans. He chokes on his saliva as soon as he opens his mouth, and the laugh ends up coming out as a gurgle. He tries to bite down on his lip to stop it, but it’s too late. Even worse, he makes eye contact with Felix right at that moment—and whimpers.
Felix stops laughing. Chan looks down at his feet, and he knows his face must be extremely red right now. “Wait.”
Chan learns that it’s okay to let himself be taken care of.

“Good boy,” Chan says without thinking, and when he looks back on this interaction later, he will be able to pinpoint this as the exact moment where he first fucked up. Next to him, he hears Jisung breathing in sharply, and Chan grimaces. Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck. He manages a shaky laugh. “Better than me, at least. I can't quite seem to kick the nicotine addiction.” It's not the only addiction he has trouble getting over, either, and that is exactly the problem.

“Now that’s all sorted, we can begin.” The man says.
Minho shifts in his chair a little, preparing himself. The tapping of computer keys echo in the room. He takes stock of what he knows. There’s something strapped to his chest, neck and wrist, and whatever is clamped on his finger, but nothing else is happening. He realises with mounting horror that this isn’t some sort of torture device.
It’s a heart rate monitor.
He curses his luck. A heart rate monitor isn’t exactly a lie detector, but it’s a damned good machine to use if you want to see what gets people riled up or nervous so that you know where to push and what’s not important.
More importantly, no amount of controlling his body language will mask his heartbeat.

What was going on. Jisung’s skin prickled with heat, like he was a hot plate and Minho had just plugged him in. There was that feeling again, like electricity flowing from Minho’s body to his own, energy without an outlet, stirring inside him and sharpening into focus and oh fuck he suddenly understood what it was.
Jisung wriggled out of Minho’s arms. Ignoring his look of surprise, he pushed him flat on his back and climbed into his lap, his legs straddling Minho’s hips.
Minho’s eyes flashed something dark and dangerous. He stared up at Jisung, his lips parted in a perfect heart.
“Can we, um. Can we fuck?” Jisung swallowed. “I think I like. Really want to have sex with you.”
After he and Minho confess their feelings to each other, Jisung experiences sexual attraction for the first time and it is (understandably) a lot to process. We go from there.

“Oh my gods”, Changbin breathes out, feeling like the whole world is going out of focus. This is a lot to take in. But first and foremost: “Is Jisung okay?!”
He looks between Minho and Chan, panic creeping up on him, but is relieved by the looks on their faces. Neither of them look like they’re freaking out, but they’ve had some hours to process this.
“He’s unconscious in the backyard”, Minho states bluntly. “But for a dryad, that’s pretty normal, so yeah, he’s fine. We’re calling a doctor over, though, just to make sure.”

Summary
Chan is certain Hyunjin and Jisung can't stand each other.
He knows there’s not something as a perfect team, and ups and downs are to be expected. But this is different. The heated gazes, the snarky remarks, they are too real.
The tension is always present.
But most times it is just that. A constant ache in the back of his mind that he can ignore.
Until is not.
He just has to breathe. Breathe through it as the doctors tell him about Hyunjin and Jisung's injuries, the consequences, and following treatment, he nods at the incomprehensible words. Breath as he answers his phone and tells a room number to his agent that he actually can’t recall.
Breathe in.
Blink every 5 seconds.
Breathe out.

Superhero Bang Chan is the perfect leader, in control and centered in compensation for his unruly, chaotic team. He comes out unscathed from the most violent and volatile situations that, in this case, have a face and name: Hyunjin and Jisung.
Until he doesn't, and he crumbles down on a quiet night. Thankfully, he is not alone. Even though he finds aid in those he never expected to.

“Or what, prince?” Jisung lowers his voice mid argument, like that makes him comply with Chan, but hes still too close to Hyunjin.
Hyunjin flares, but he looks at Chan and his teeth grit together.
“Get out of my face.” Hyunjin bites out.
“I said enough.” Chan interrupts for the second time. “God, what am I going to do with you?”
It had been a good day, with a little stumbling steps in the way, but their mission was a success at the end, and he would rejoice in the outcome of it if it was not because of this. The tension in the room is tight and pester. They should be freshening up, washing away the pressure of today and calling it a day.
They don’t have the best of lucks lately.
