The stoplight system worked as such: L would do whatever he wanted, and if Light wanted to stop, he would say red, any time. If he wanted to slow down, he would say yellow. Practically, it would be kind of ridiculous to say ‘blue’ instead of ‘yes’ or ‘keep going’, if Light wanted to say that, but, L explained, sometimes he just wanted to check in with Light. To be safe. If L asked for a color and he didn’t get blue, he would assume Light wanted to say red.
That last little caveat was the worst part of the game, by the way. Light did not enjoy having to call blue at all.

Summary
Violent and violet are two alarmingly similar words. Violet, for the flowers in the central pavilion. Violent, for the extraordinary fight it had taken to get the central pavilion. Violet, for the hidden tones of Tamaki’s eyes, only in certain lights. Violent, for the raging ache in Kyoya’s chest when he thinks of him. Sweetness, locked away by rage with the addition of just one letter. A colour of strength and elegance. A word for suffering and anger.
They were twin flames, lapping at each other's ankles with grace and decorum, never encroaching, never allowing themselves to feel the roaring fire of what they could have. They were so comfortable in lies, in kisses he pretended not to care about. He was terrified, so afraid to lend Tamaki an arm that he pulled away, now seemingly forever. Instead of voicing any of this, Kyoya watches him walk away, sick to his stomach, but without so much as a flinch.
