After a moment of fumbling, he opens his coat, revealing a soaked green shirt and a small coin purse dangling from a string around his neck. He struggles with it for a moment, and when he finally gets it open, empties the entire thing into his hand.
A crumpled five-dollar bill, two pennies, and an empty candy wrapper.
“I—” There’s a noise almost like a sob, quiet and shivering, but the boy swallows it down. “I n-need you to kill my step dad.”
