“Hi Milana,” he murmured, voice gentle. “I’m Ilya, your father’s brother. Did your mama tell you I was coming over?”
Milana nodded and pulled her bottom lip into her mouth, gaze contemplative as Ilya held out a hand to her. He didn’t touch her, didn’t broach the barrier of the doorframe, just held his palm out, a gesture of vulnerability, exposing soft skin. When he’d been a child, listening out for the sound of his father’s footfalls down the hall, trying to guess at what mood the man was in that day, if today was a day he would likely be hit, those gestures of vulnerability–upturned palms, tears on cheeks–had been the only thing he’d trusted. The wounded animal in his sternum reaching out for comfort, seeking safety in the fragility of others. Proof that he wasn’t the weakest one.
Or: After spending Christmas with the Hollanders Ilya realises he has unfinished business in Moscow; namely, saying goodbye to his mother's grave and recovering the pieces of his history. Before meeting Shane at the cottage for their second summer together - and before upending his life and moving to another country once again - Ilya decides to return to his home city and attempt to lay his past to rest.

Shane is slow to get the the phone when it rings, his hips twinging uncomfortably as he shuffles over to retrieve his phone from where he'd set it on the counter. He doesn't recognize the number, but that doesn't mean much these days.
"Hello, am I speaking to Mr. Shane Hollander?" The young man on the other end of the line is politer.
"Yes, this is him." Shane sighs. Probably another MHL intern looking to brush off the cobwebs and get him back in front of an audience, or maybe they needed a presenter at the awards again this year. No, wait. Wrong time of year. Time passed oddly up here at the cottage, seemed to slow and jump forward at random intervals.
"My name is Timothy, and I'm calling from the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. I imagine you're familiar with it."
"Of course, son. Now what did you want to talk to me about?" Shane asked
"Sorry, sorry. I'm calling on behalf of the Hall of Fame to let you know that your band has officially been retired, and to invite you to the hanging ceremony."
Or, all of Shane and Ilya's wins are inscribed on the same band of the Stanley Cup, and now it's time for that band to be hung up in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

In room 1410, Ilya Rozanov is ready to walk out the door after successfully getting his 19 year old hockey rival into bed. He knew how to make this moment happen and he knows what they have to be to each other now that it's over. But as he turns the doorknob to leave, he's stopped with questions he never expected. And giving Shane Hollander what he needs in that moment will change everything.
There's a lot of explicit content but I try to note which chapters are SFW vs NFSW.
Covers the first two years of their rookie seasons (which is mostly skipped over in the show/books). Canon divergent from the first hookup seen in HR s01ep01. Most things are from the show but the timeline is a mix of both; Hunter and Marleau are aged up per the show instead of as young as they are in the books. (Also, Shane and Ilya don't wait *two years*, they stick to the book timeline. IYKYK.)
