Ghost’s expression darkened, anger rolling off him in waves. Then, suddenly, he shoved Soap back. “You’re not seriously considering going through with it.”
Soap blinked. Of all reactions, this wasn’t what he expected. He thought Ghost would push him toward the Adam serum. He was the poster child for it, the golden success story. Ghost had seen him struggle to keep up—surely, he’d want his sergeant to have the tactical advantage.
Soap scoffed, irritation sparking. “Why not? It’s what I was put in the team for.”
Ghost stilled, his voice turning ice-cold. “You’re a fucking idiot, MacTavish.”
OR
Soap had been posted to the 141—the only human among soldiers enhanced by the Adam serum. Surrounded by Meta-humans, he was determined to prove himself, but his world is turned upside down when he's given a choice: take the serum or be reassigned.
With everything on the line, Soap is forced to confront not only his place in the team but also the feelings he's been avoiding—especially when it comes to his Lieutenant.

Soap had never been a big fan of spiders. With all their legs and eyes, as well as how they could sneak around anywhere, building their little homes.
Ghost was a person, yes, but he also had everything that made Soap dislike spiders — eight limbs, eight eyes so dark they looked like they were all pupils, and that silent yet deadly aura to him. It was uncanny.
Eventually, the lines between fear and attraction began to blur.

A chance meet-up in London during mandated leave didn't seem possible, but somehow Soap finds himself living with his Lieutenant in his flat. And his Lieutenant, the famous, feared Ghost, turns out to be an extremely well-adjusted civilian with a flat, a cat, and a bunch of old ladies who adopted him on the spot. In contrast, Soap doesn't remember what's it like to know how to act outside of the military.
Throughout the leave, Soap learns from Ghost - only this time, he's learning how to be a person, outside of being a solider. Through cooking, cleaning, shopping, living, he finds home. And, of course, it was always right there, with Simon

Summary
Turns out, if you make fun of your captain, you will end up with the short end of the stick. The short end being an invitation for a formal christmas ball, hosted by the royal British Army.
Price had been grumbling about that event ever since he received one of those. So naturally, Soap took his chance and started needling the captain about it. Simon “Grinch” Riley joined him, and if it had been just one or two comments about christmas ball Cinderella Price, they would have been fine. But things might have gotten a little overboard with jokes about kissing generals under the mistletoe, or maybe it was Ghost reminding him to wrap his package before going (which was objectively funny, in Soap’s humble opinion).
Whatever it was, Price had slapped an invitation on both of their desks with a mild comment to get those back to him by dinner.
Or: Ghost and Soap get dragged to a Christmas party by Price, shenanigans ensue

He liked his teammates, liked Captain Price and his funny moustache and strong leadership, liked Gaz and his like minded humour and youthful honesty. He liked the big, scary Ghost, even if he hadn’t delved as deeply into the mysteries of that man as he wanted to.
