Akaashi Keiji was perfectly content with not being the protagonist.
He couldn’t help but marvel at the way people could simply ignore the lives of those around them in favour of their own, insignificant, self-centred ones. Not to say that the lives of others weren’t important. Quite the contrary. It was more like all of those lives were individually important and it was selfish to be so engrossed in one’s own little world.
Maybe he should be more selfish. What a quiet life that would be.
But no; Akaashi was not the main character.
He couldn’t just live his life without a care in the world. He had people to impress and life stories to cross paths with. He couldn’t have some person’s only moments with him - however minuscule they may be - leave a bad impression.
So Akaashi was always on. His mind always loud and his thoughts always running.
Oh, to be so blissfully ignorant was not a privilege Akaashi possessed.
