Summary
Now that Sina-native Erwin has died, a stressed Commander Hange and grief-stricken Captain Levi struggle to keep ahold of the newly-popular Survey Corps among a tidal wave of citizens in full support and a sea of political enemies within the MP and Royal Palace. Armin grapples with what it means to be useful, and Eren tries to keep himself afloat of the anger that has dogged his every step since Wall Maria first fell. Mikasa doesn't want to be left behind, but is struggling to catch up.
Meanwhile, across the ocean, a very-much-alive Erwin awakens in an unfamiliar land and must convince the Marleyan brass that he has lost his memories and is loyal to them, while also attempting to inform those on Paradis that he is alive and trying to help.

Levi reached out and slid Hange’s wounded hand into his palm. Gently, to avoid causing further pain, he dragged his thumb over her bandaged knuckles in a circular soothing caress. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and released, his composure now reinstated.
“We’ll make it out of this.” Just hold on.
In a terrible twist of fate, Hange is blown up in the thunderspear explosion rather than Levi, who instead takes the role of patching her up in the forest after escaping the Jaegerists.

He wets his lips, and Erwin watches him. “He either sacrifices the thing he wants, or he sacrifices himself. Maybe the only difference between them is what they’re willing to lose.”
In the end, the surrender is easy. All that’s left is to fall from the ledge.

Summary
The rain has stopped. A breeze ruffles Levi’s hair, dissipating the last of the steam from the tips of his ears. It carries the scent of ozone, dew-dropped grass, the mineral tang of the mud. Levi’s tongue is too big in his mouth. He watches Erwin loom over him and is suddenly seized by the sense that he is teetering over the precipice, gazing over the expanse of something indescribable, enormous, unfathomable. There is a hand lovingly placed in between his shoulder blades, and deft fingers are weaving wire through his sternum, knitting the wound shut.
The clouds part, and sunshine unfurls from behind Erwin’s broad shoulders.
“Fight with us, Levi.” His voice shakes with conviction. “We need you.”
The hand at Levi’s back gives a gentle push, the wire pulls taut, and Levi soars.

Following Hange’s sacrificial death at the hands of the Rumbling, it would be easy, too easy to let darkness overtake him in Paths, in the place without pain or death.
