Three days later they take the bullet train back to Tokyo, to the apartment that Endo rents them near Shimokitazawa station so they can have their fill of fashion and art and music and live shows and cigarettes after fights. Takiishi falls asleep on the shinkansen, his face so soft at rest that Endo has to look away. He can't let himself see Takiishi that gentle for more than a moment at a time, has to approach it with sidelong glances, Takiishi's figure cut in relief, a shrouded statue. Something about it presses on a deep ache— a bruise in Endo's lungs, at the base of his heart. Takiishi's head lolls forward and then sideways and he settles himself on Endo's shoulder with the softest sound falling from his parted lips.
Endo lifts his eyes and watches the cities form and disappear at lightning speed outside the train window, as though they are being summoned by the errant hand of a god, disposed of just as easily. He imagines a car crash in slow motion, the way he would lift his hands from the wheel, the way he would turn to Takiishi, arms up to try to cover Takiishi's face, the way Takiishi's wide fathoms-deep eyes would look at him, the sudden relief of the sharp rain of glass.

" Zanka closes and opens his eyes. His chest heaves a little, just a bit, when he tries to take in the sight in front of him. His brain malfunctions.
“What the fuck?” is what leaves his mouth, sounding more like a question to himself than anything, really.
Jabber looks at him stupid.
Zanka looks at him stupider.
What the fuck.
“Huh.”
Zanka blinks again.
He takes a few seconds to respond.
“Is this real or should I get my head checked?” he asks, finally, truly.
“‘Dunno,” Jabber pinches his forearm. “Seems pretty real.”
Zanka blinks, again, and wishes it was, in fact, his head. "

“I thought you knew me, Zan-chan.” Jabber swallowed, pulling away, Adam’s Apple bobbing as he took in the taste of Zanka’s and his shared saliva. “You know I hate small-talk. So why do you keep running away from it? C’mon, Mr. Bad Attitude, just let your boy take care of you.”
Zanka glared, though it wasn’t much of anything. “. . . Shut your trap, fuckin’ shithead.”
“O-ho? This one’s got teeth.” The Raider jeered to himself, dragging a ringed-finger up and along his lover’s chest. He enjoyed the way Zanka shuddered, his body still taking in the full effect of the drug. “You don’t like how my latest poison tastes?”
Or, Jabber uses an aphrodisiac on Zanka.

A medicine for a drug differs only in dosage, just as a drug differs from medicine by it. Zanka got hooked on the first, Jabber on the second. One helps relieve chronic pain for someone who has suffered for many years from themselves, the other allows to experience previously unknown euphoria.

Last time was just a fluke. A once-off thing. Zanka definitely didn't avoid hand-to-hand training because it made him hard, and he definitely wasn't avoiding Raiders, either- not any more than usual, at least. So either he's incredibly unlucky or just a really magnetic guy. Jabber can't seem to get enough.
