Quite frankly, on the floor, half naked, and lying in a pool of his own blood in a bathroom is not how Gabriel expected to find her brother. Now she feels kind of bad about not paying back that fifty bucks...

Summary
It all started with Tony Stark seeking him out in Hell’s Kitchen.
Stark had said they needed his help. Nobody knew Hell’s Kitchen like him and they had reason to believe that Hydra had set up shop there.
Matt had been reluctant, Hydra was dangerous and he wasn’t sure he wanted to be on their radar but they were operating out of his city. That pissed him off.
So he agreed to help them and in return, the Avengers wouldn’t make him sign the Accords or question his methods.
Looking back, he should have let them deal with it alone.

Now Matt has to pretend that he is new to blindness and deal with the Avengers' overwhelming guilt and their gift-giving tendencies. The Avengers have even given him a smelly seeing-eye-dog! Summary
Jake woke up and couldn’t figure out what he was looking up at. It wasn’t a natural material - neither the leaves and branches of hometree nor the shimmering leaf of his hammock. It also wasn’t the industrial ceiling of one of the research stations where he might have been taken had been injured somewhere out in the jungle. No, this was looking distinctly human, and Earth-like.
He made to get up but immediately fell out of bed when his legs didn’t respond. His very human legs. In his very human bed. In his old bedroom before he had shipped out to Pandora. There was a knock at the door. “Jake, you okay?” a familiar voice called out.
His heart nearly stopped. “Yeah, I’m fine, Tommy,” he called back before his brother could enter the room.

Or: Jake falls asleep on Pandora a year after Avatar 1. Jake wakes up on Earth several months before he is to leave on the long journey to Pandora. Jake promptly tracks down Norm and does things better this time around. (Eywa's solution to disaster is to send everyone back in time).

In my story, though, he has to contend with a bit of life going sideways when he gets a fever and goes blind. How will he realize his dream of becoming a King's Ranger if he can no longer see?

Instead of managing to meet up later, Oliver has to keep running with Akio. The only way to keep them safe is to go public with Oliver being alive, leaving him back home in charge of Akio, while Tatsu and Maseo are still in the wind.
Oliver has to get used to being back home where he doesn’t fit anymore, while also taking care of a child and getting caught up in a larger conspiracy that keeps the existence of the Alpha-Omega virus secret. In the meantime, his primary mission is to reunite Akio with his parents, something that isn’t the easiest when being back from the dead and in the spotlight.
