Summary
No, I don’t want to fall in love. This world is only gonna break your heart.
Jack Abbot swore off love after his wife died. Casual is safer, it doesn’t leave a mark. But when a sense of rivalry with Robby turns into an unshakable fixation on his overlooked resident, Jack sets out to win him from Robby.
He doesn’t count on Dennis running a game of his own.
Dennis Whitaker swore off love when he first learned that falling for someone means giving them the chance to break you first. When Trinity notices Jack Abbot paying close attention to her roommate, Dennis and Trin hatch a plan: play the innocent and ask Abbot to help him “figure out his sexuality.”
What starts as two careful lies snowballs into something else entirely.
Jack thinks he’s just helping Dennis get ready for somebody else. Dennis thinks he’s protected as long as nobody finds out the truth. Both of them are wrong, and both of them know it.
What a wicked game to play.

Jack and Whitaker are like that, the two of them layered over each other like a double exposure in the periphery of Robby’s vision. Time sloshes into itself and suddenly, just for a moment, Robby’s peering into Jack’s past or Whitaker’s future. And there he is between them, caught in the fulcrum of an eternal present.

Ordinary Corrupt Human Love (title taken from the Deafheaven album by the same name--highly recommend) is the universe in which Choke Chain and associated works exist.
In this universe, Dennis lives as Robby and Abbot's puppy, either willingly or by force. There are strong themes of Dead Dove and Dub/NonCon throughout, so please read what is safe for you, and heed all warnings.Talk with me about it on my tumblr, @sacrificedagoat.

Summary
When Robby finally goes on sabbatical, Dennis is scheduled exclusively for nightshift. It’s inconvenient, at first, having to take the bus everywhere now that he was completely unaligned with Trinity, but then Dr. Abbot starts to offer to take him home. And then to breakfast before he takes him home. And then just to his own home to sleep instead of his apartment with Trinity. And then, the next thing Dennis realizes, when Abbot kisses him, is that he might be dating Dr. Abbot.

Summary
“Hey,” Dr. Abbot sighed. “Can you look at me, kid?”
Dennis forced his eyes to raise, meeting Abbot’s. The older man’s mouth curled into a small frown, and his jaw ticked. “If I ask you a question, will you be honest with me?”
Dennis’ teeth sunk into his cheek again. He nodded.
Dr. Abbot stood up a little higher, but his chin tilted down, maintaining eye contact with Dennis. He tucked his hands into his pockets. “Are you homeless?”
Jack Abbot found Dennis on the abandoned eighth floor of the PTMC. Dennis was humiliated to be discovered, but against all odds, Abbot invited Dennis to live with him—as long as he was considerate of Abbot’s younger brother, Andrew.

Protecting Omega Fertility is Everyone's Responsibility. See Something, Say Something.
When you're one of only a third of the population who can bear children, and you want nothing less, there's little choice but to take the illegal drug, pose as a Beta for your entire life, and deal with the dysphoria, dysregulation and loneliness.
It's been working out just fine (not fine) for Whitaker so far. He just didn't count on the two Alphas who keep screwing each other in secret to take an interest.

Summary
“Santos recently got into soccer and she’s been pulling Dennis into it,” Robby elaborated, and Dana couldn’t tell you why she didn't question in that moment why he knew that fact. “We’re talking about which team to support, since Pittsburgh doesn’t have one.”
“Robby doesn’t even have a team,” Whitaker complained, and the lack of honorific was so obvious in hindsight, though right then Dana had hardly questioned when the resident had gotten so comfortable with the attending. “He just roots for whoever is playing against Philly.”
“City loyalty,” Robby emphasized again, causing the younger man to roll his eyes once more and huff out an exasperated sigh.
“Sorry, kid,” Dana offered to Whitaker. “I’m with Robby on this one. Fuck Philly.”

'There's a notification clogging up his screen.
Dennis Whitaker (R1): Hey, just wanted to check in with you after yesterday. It was intense. And also, that thing you were asking about? I feel like Trin kinda got in your head about it. Amy's really just a friend. She needs help on the farm, with a baby, and I'm pretty good at farmwork. That's all.
It's entirely too much justification for your boss.'
Robby finally makes it to his sabbatical.
Whitaker finds himself a little adrift without his boss around.
Jack is just trying to make sure the both of them are happy.

"He knew this wouldn’t work, but he needed it to work this time. More than when he was in Nebraska, more than when he was homeless, because otherwise Trinity and his friends and Jack and Robby would know. They would find him in this cold, dark room and realize how weak he was."

Summary
He hesitates before sending a second message. you should be asleep, too.
He imagines Robby receiving it, the quirk of his lips, the reluctant laugh, the rueful shake of his head. If it was another day—a day before Whitaker found out the guy he had a kinda-sorta thing with, the guy he gets on his knees for, the guy who pulls his hair and ties his hands behind his back and calls him a good boy, a day before he found out that guy was his new boss—he'd ask if Whitaker was being cheeky because he was looking for a punishment.
