“So — maybe I’m not quite getting it,” Eddie says, slightly muffled around the last bit of the joint, sprawled out on Steve’s bed, seemingly unbothered by the occasional t-shirt or pair of pants flying dangerously close to his head whenever Steve tosses them over his shoulder. “ I feel like metalhead isn’t really your, you know, bag. Thing. Whatever. So — why, you know, ask me for help?”
“I don’t know. I just — haven’t you ever looked in the mirror and just been, like, who the fuck is that?” Steve is thankful he’s at his closet again, frowning at the sea of pastel polos and dress shirts in front of him and trying to ignore the heated flush creeping up the back of his neck.
“Hasn’t everybody?”
...

He sidesteps the rest of the group as they troop out of the RV. Steve’s still standing his ground by the driver’s seat.
“Uh, Steve, I can see what’s in there. That’s mine.”
“Yeah, but—” Steve huffs, still holding the bag tightly, and he almost seems… embarrassed.

It amuses Eddie to no end how Steve and Dustin talk; they’re whispering, sure, but they somehow sound even louder than if they just spoke normally. It’s like they read a guidebook on hospital protocol which told them to talk in hushed tones, and they tried their best only to immediately fail.
