“There have been multiple sightings of a herd of magical beasts from villages in the the Northern Plains” Leon looked harried “it seems they’re leaving behind a trail of complete wreckage. People are losing their homes, their crops. Wherever these beasts tread, it's being said that the land dies under them.”
The doors to the great hall open.
“Sire,” Lancelot nodded to Arthur in acknowledgement, walking in and picking up the tail end of the conversation, “I'm sorry I'm late. I was held back listening to some worrying reports from the East, by the Forest of Ascetir.”
Arthur sighs heavily “Are the reports of the same beasts?”
“Well no, not exactly…" Lancelot hesitated "The reports are of a different nature. It’s being said that the King of Camelot is staying in an inn near the Darkling Woods. And that he is on his way to Camelot.”

Summary
“You summoned me, Your Majesty?” asked Gwen, dropping low in her curtsy. Arthur nodded tightly and closed the door to his chambers once she stepped inside. Gwen tried not to show her surprise at the mess in the room.
The blankets were torn from the bed and strewn across the floor. All of the goblets, plates and bowls had plenty of dents and laid pitifully against the walls, which bore marks of a clear struggle.
“Did someone break in, Sire?” asked Gwen hurriedly as she attempted to tidy up some of the clutter. Arthur waved her off and gestured to one of the chairs which were still intact.
“No, it was just me,” he answered tiredly. “Guinevere, I’ve called you here because, I — you’ve no doubt heard about Merlin.”
Gwen nodded. She had been sewing when Rosie ran in, gushing something about Merlin being a sorcerer and, even worse, the king and Sir Lancelot were going to duel it out for his affections.
Or Merlin's magic is revealed! It sure is a good thing nobody overreacts.

“Got it,” interrupted Gwaine with a determined nod. “I’ve prepared for this day, Merls. Don’t worry, we know what to do.”
“We?” Merlin looked doubtful which seemed to offend Gwaine. Just then, Arthur called out for everyone to take a break and Gwaine seized the opportunity to attract the attention of Elyan, Lancelot and Percival. For a second, Arthur looked suspicious and made to follow but they breathed a sigh of relief when Leon stopped him apologetically with his questions.
“Merlin, meet your personal order of knights,” said Gwaine proudly. To the others, he declared, “Men! It is time for Operation Gold Goose to commence. This isn’t a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill!” They shared a look but nodded at once, leaving Merlin more confused than ever.
“Operation… Gold Goose?”
Or Merlin ingests a truth potion (betrayed by Gaius, of all people!) and so obviously needs to hide from Arthur, lest he learns the truth. Thank god he has his friends to fall back on.

He rolled his shoulders and sighed. “Okay, now onto the consummation part. Kissing does not lead to children, Arthur.”
Merlin watched as he cycled through a few emotions, namely shock, disbelief, scepticism and curiosity. He was silent for a long time before Arthur managed a dazed, “Really?”
“Do you think pigs snog each other to produce piglets?” asked Merlin flatly. The notion did seem strange but Arthur hadn’t ever watched with extreme interest to find out how baby piglets were made. They could have very well kissed, for all he knew. Arthur told Merlin as such and he merely sighed again. “Okay, you know what?"
Or Arthur is wildly clueless of his marital duties and despite Merlin's efforts, he's just not getting it. It's a good thing Merlin is happy to show him exactly what he needs to do.

“Mordred is a god, Sire!” nodded Leon. Behind him, Merlin snorted.
“Anything to add, Merlin?” asked Arthur, knowing full well he did indeed have things to say. Arthur just wanted to sleep. He had had one hell of a day filled with back-to-back meetings with nobles and townspeople complaining alike. Being king meant he could never catch a break, it seemed.
“Merlin, you would know who Emrys is, right?” asked Leon, shifting his focus to him. The knights also leaned in, waiting for Merlin’s answer. He took his time folding Arthur’s clothes before finally looking up.
“Yes.”
“It’s Mordred, isn’t it?”
Another long pause and Arthur had half a mind to send his useless servant to the dungeons for the very valid reason of annoying him. “It is,” agreed Merlin and instantly, Leon’s head snapped back to Arthur.
Or Merlin will go to any length to make sure he's not revealed as Emrys. Any length.
