Summary
The issue is that no house is good enough when the other option is Eddie and Christopher filling the house with the warmth he could never quite capture while they were in Texas.
But he can’t keep delaying it if Eddie managed to sell a whole house in the time that Buck’s been looking for an apartment.
Sure, it seems like Eddie did a great job making the place livable, enough to make the place appealing enough to get a few offers, but still, Buck needs to find a new place to live.
And it’s making him think about all those feelings he’s been ignoring since Eddie told him he was looking for houses in El Paso.
The level of hurt behind the decision to move in and let Eddie go without a fight.
Because he didn’t think he could win.

Summary
"Bobby, I swear to God. Just tell me what's going on," Eddie blurted out harshly.
The 118's captain sighed on the other end of the line. "Buck got into an accident during shift this morning."
Eddie's breath caught in his throat. He thought he'd kind of predicted something like this, but nothing could've prepared him for hearing these words out loud.
OR, another story in which Buck confesses his love to Eddie during a near death experience, but in a voicemail, while Eddie and Chris are still in El Paso.

Summary
“You, uh… you looking at anything interesting?” Buck asked, not sure if he really wanted the answer.
“You sound much less excited than you did last time.” Eddie said jokingly, leaning forward to try and make eye contact with Buck again. Buck couldn’t quite manage it though, he had been trying to avoid having too much contact with Eddie recently so the other man wouldn’t realize that 1. he’s painfully in love with him and 2. Eddie moving out of state is kind of making it feel like his world is ending.
Buck forced a chuckle, reaching out to knock his knuckles against Eddie’s knee. “Well last time I thought you were doing some weird repressed-Catholic porn watching in your kitchen. I certainly hope you aren’t doing your repressed porn watching in the middle of the station.”

He’s a frantic mess, late and hungover, and waking up in the bed of a guy he doesn’t recognize.
He thinks his name is Eli. Ethan? It’s an E name. He remembers that, at least. Remembers the warmth of his tongue in his mouth, how when he’d pulled away to tell Buck his name, he’d thought, drunk and delirious, Eddie’s name starts with an E, too.

Summary
Buck suffers a concussion at work, and stays with Eddie to recuperate. The intimacy of Eddie’s care brings to a head the feelings Buck has been trying to hide since Eddie came out as gay.
When Buck’s recovery suffers a worrying setback, he finds out that maybe he isn’t the only one keeping important feelings to himself.
——————————————
“It’s Ok, Buck. I got you. You’re Ok.”
Eddie.
“I dimmed the light. You can try again if you want. But only if you want, and only when you’re ready.”
Buck took a long moment to make sense of that. Then, once he’d worked out Eddie had somehow made it less bright, he cautiously opened his eyes again.
Better. It was better.
This time, things were a little more in focus. He saw Eddie. Eddie’s beautiful face. Wait, he wasn’t allowed to think Eddie was beautiful. Or was he? No. He could think it. Not say it.
That was important.

Summary
Buck thought it was a brilliant idea for him and Eddie to announce his pregnancy to the rest of the 118 and their families (aka their extended family) via the gingerbread house making competition they were having. Hosted by Bobby and Athena in the kitchen/dining area of the firehouse as the two weren’t competing, even if May and Harry were competing together. The family that wins gets a $200 Amazon gift card, and well, with the baby on the way (hopefully, because his mind is still tormenting him on occasion despite now being 14 weeks pregnant) Buck feels like that will come in very handy.
He also liked to think that they would definitely win if they used it as a way to announce their little bundle of joy. And Eddie didn’t argue with him....
Bobby and Athena are hosting a 118 gingerbread house making competition. Buck thinks it is a splendid way to tell the rest of the firefam that he is pregnant. So that is what they do. A good chunk of Buckley-Diaz family shenanigans, and lots of love.

“Who the hell is Evan?” Buck asks.
“Ummmmm, you?” Eddie draws in his bottom lip as a giggle makes an attempt at freedom. Doing this while wine-tipsy is making it significantly more difficult. “That’s your name.”

“That’s the name on our marriage license.”

Buck's phone rests in his back pocket. It would be so easy to call Eddie, or even Maddie, for help. He hates that he’s considering it, hates that he can’t handle one tantrum on his own.
Buck wipes the tears from Isabel's cheek, but two more come down in their place.
“I’m here. You’re okay, baby,” he continues.
Eddie’s been gone for what? An hour?
"Come home. I’m not ready for this. I need you by my side," he wants to text.
It’s not a fair request, so Buck doesn’t make it.

Summary
Buck freezes, like his entire body has hit pause. “…Eddie?” he says carefully.
Eddie hums, distracted, still smiling as he presses a kiss to Buck’s neck. “Mm?”
“What,” Buck asks, “are you doing?” The words land wrong. Off key.
Eddie pulls back slightly, blinking. He looks up and sees Buck’s face when he turns to face him. Wide eyes. Pink cheeks. Mouth half open like he’s been rebooted. The kitchen suddenly feels very quiet.
“I—” Eddie’s smile falters. “I was just—”
Buck gently, awkwardly untangles Eddie’s arms from around his waist and takes a step away. The space between them feels enormous. “Did you just,” Buck pauses, gesturing vaguely between them, “grab my ass?”
Eddie’s brain catches up all at once. The dream. The kisses that never happened. The relationship that never happened.

Summary
Three years.
Three fucking years.
That's how long it's been since Buck begged Eddie to stay with empty promises. Three years since he cried and shouted at him to stay with vicious tears. Three years since Eddie didn't listen and moved all the way to Texas with Ana and Christopher. Buck still feels the ache and broken pieces that Eddie had left behind even after three years. Buck's heart has been broken before, but nothing compared to the emptiness that Eddie left him with. Buck had tried to stop loving him. To move on, He built up walls that surrounded his heart and found other names to whisper in the night as other hearts unbuckled his belt. But Eddie had carved his name on Buck's heart accidental or not, and Buck still wonders if Eddie remembers the way they use to look at each other or if he just forgot and replaced the memories with new ones of how Ana looks at him. Three years yet, this is the last thing he expected to see.
A wedding invitation.

Summary
When he was 26, Buck had his first genuinely transformative relationship. She was smart, kind and more mature than him. She looked at him and it made him feel like maybe he mattered.
When she told him she needed to go find herself, he promised to wait.He waited for months, living like a ghost in her abandoned home, before finally walking away, humiliated and abandoned, finally realising the love he'd felt had been one-sided.
All of this to say, Evan Buckley had never been good at knowing when to let go of things.
So when Eddie Diaz told him on a chilly Friday afternoon that he had put his house on the market and started packing, Buck told himself that this time, he wasn't going to cling to someone trying to leave him behind. This time, Buck would understand what rejection looked like, and he would let someone he loved walk away with dignity.
