Aziraphale knew how to keep his emotions buried better than anyone, certainly when it came to anger. But he wasn’t prepared for the end of the world to put a stop to that vaunt in the erupt manner that it did.

Summary
The Revenge spots a drifting, seemingly abandoned ship. Is it haunted, overrun by demons, or full of vampire-mermaids? Probably none of the above, Ed and Stede think, though some of the crew have different ideas. There does seem to be something wrong about that ship though. It warrants some investigation.
This is a ghost story/horror genre (not too scary) multi-chapter story set in the wonderful Co-Captains time before everything went to hell. This story is now complete.

Ed cracks a most delightful grin and puts his hand on his heart. “Tell you what, if I die before you, promise I’ll come back and haunt the fuck outta you, mate.”
“That would be absolutely lovely. Thank you.”
Ed laughs again and Stede watches his face light up. His eyes are adjusting to the dark, and he can see the outline of Ed’s features again, and can catch the flash of white teeth. Stede could swear that when Ed tosses his head laughing, the faint light from the moon and stars flows like water through the silver in his hair.

“Sh-shh!” Stede pushes two fingers against his lips to shut him up.
Ed goes still and a bit cross-eyed, staring down at the hand on his mouth. Stede moves it away, with a mouthed “sorry!” focusing intently on the sounds outside the shed instead.
In the alley, hurried steps and shouting voices rush past; they catch fragments of: “Where the fuck did they go then?” or “Keep looking!” and even “The short one looks like a bloody birthday cake, how do you lose that—”

Summary
“You,” Ed starts to interrupt him, then stops, clearing his throat. His voice is almost— gritting, cracking in the middle. When he starts again, he’s stronger, but still— shaky. “You made me this? I mean— You made this? For me?”
Stede’s not entirely sure what he means by that, but he has that little bubbling sensation he always gets when Ed is making him happy. It’s this simmering, glowing joy that always rises inside him, like it’s going to blow him up. He’s already smiling.
“I did,” Stede says. Ed sits up properly beside him, and Stede nudges his shoulder, jostles him a bit. “I thought you could use something a little bit soft. Besides me, you know.”
He’s expecting Ed to tease him in response, but instead, he doesn’t speak. He just keeps staring down at the blanket, clutched between his fingers.

Stede can’t help crying out in pain, in the next beat, finally giving in when an instinctive sound comes up. It’s loud, and the crew goes dead silent around him.
Stede doesn’t even notice. He’s just trying to breathe, skin tugging painfully, when a door bangs open at the opposite end of the ship.
“What the fuck was that?” Ed demands from afar, voice heard easily over the crash of the sea around them. “Was that Stede? Where the fuck is he?”
“Oh, no,” Lucius says quietly.
“If you jump overboard, babe, I swear I’ll come back for you,” Black Pete promises him.

His Majesty the King ends this Curse of Piracy by Sending these Devils back to Hell.

Ed points out at the dinghy that’s halfway submerged underwater, sinking further and further down with each wave that rocks over it.
“That one there,” Ed clarifies.
“Oh,” Stede says. “Well, I— Yes, it was.”
Ed goes quiet for a moment.
“Ah,” he says, then stops again. After a beat, he adds, “And the ship—”
“Hasn’t noticed, no,” Stede replies.
Ed clicks his tongue.
“Alright,” he says.
The two of them stare at the dinghy for another minute.

Summary
Stede knows from experience, from a sword piercing his side for far too long, how it feels when your skin starts trying to heal around a blade, when you know you’re going to have to tear it open again, when its only crime was just wanting to save you.
And maybe Stede isn’t some nightmare pirate, and maybe he’s not the vision that Blackbeard inspires, and maybe he’s not scary. Maybe he’s not made of smoke, with glowing eyes; maybe he’s not a hero, or a villain, or anyone but some poor shit who thinks he knows what he’s doing when nobody really ever knows.
But he knows two things: he knows that he will kill for Ed; and he knows that this man knows that, too.

“No!” Ed screams instinctively. He doesn’t know what’s happened, but he knows he’s heard a gunshot, and he knows Stede’s hands are slipping out of his, and he knows, a second later, that Stede’s let go of the railing to fall into the sea below.
Somebody grabs onto Ed’s shoulder, but he wrenches them off of him without a second thought. He wrestles his boots off, then his weapons, but he doesn’t care to tear off anything else— there isn’t time for it, not now, not when—
“Captain, don’t!” Frenchie shouts behind him.
Ed ignores him. The Revenge doesn’t have a captain if Stede Bonnet’s not on board.
