I mean, I figure — I don’t wanna rush you or nothin’, and then after a couple years I guessed you probably weren’t interested but you never told me to clear off so that’s just us, then, the flirting. The joking around about you being my wife, my boyfriend, the divorces and what have you.”
“Right,” Etho says.
“And it didn’t mean nothin’, ‘cept the two of us being us.”
Etho pauses. He looks up at the ceiling — not quite able to meet Bdubs eyes — and twirls a strand of dark curls around his finger. “I mean, I think that meant something. Since it was us.”

“You–” Kaveh furrows his eyebrows, at a loss. “Were you even listening to me this whole time?”
“Kaveh, please.”
Alhaitham and Kaveh's relationship is supposed to move slowly. Yet, when Kaveh breaks down and Alhaitham takes care him, Kaveh accidentally blurts out "I love you" much too early.

Summary
If there was one thing Albedo considered himself good at apart from alchemy, it was observing people.
It happened to be one of his favourite pastimes too, although he had to admit there was one person in particular he loved to observe especially.
The way Kaeya made an attempt at hiding his smile whenever he saw something uplifting, or the way he had a habit of tossing a coin whenever he was feeling anxious. The way he flipped his hair back to either intimidate or impress, and how graciously he moved in battle.
One thing Albedo had noticed though, was the way he avoided using his hands to touch people.
Or more specifically, touch him.
Now Albedo didn’t mind per se. Kaeya made sure to make him feel loved in other ways, their intriguing conversations more than enough to keep him satisfied. Soft kisses they shared when no one was looking, book recommendations with sweet notes hidden between their pages.
He just wished Kaeya would allow him to hold his hand, even just once.

Or: Kaeya is embarrassed about his cold hands, so Albedo shows him he doesn't mind.
In return, Kaeya proves to Albedo he most definitely wanted to hold his hand all along.

Summary
Inevitably, gentle kisses from near-death is a hard thing to undo the trauma of, and Kaeya finds himself unsettled way more than he should be by a tragedy that unfolded on Dragonspine and left Albedo holding hands with the skeleton of post-mortem. It's a delicate line, and Kaeya hates how close Albedo got to crossing it for entirely selfish reasons. Albedo, on the other hand, can't quite get himself to stay grounded, and finds that task harder than it already was because of Kaeya calling his feelings about him into question.
