Not long after, the front door unlocked and swung open, accompanied by his nephew’s usual shout, “I’m back!” What was decidedly not usual would be the sudden bark that followed his call.

“You’re not his legal guardian,” Albus offered bluntly. “While you have done a lot for him, you are certainly in no way responsible for his welfare.”
Severus glared. “Legally speaking, no, but otherwise of course I am responsible for him! I am the one who took him from that wretched home, the one who has been there through nightmares and medical visits and-“
“My, my, Severus. Could it be that you are jealous?”

Before Ballister and Nimona can execute or even come up with their plan to get the Director to confess, Ambrosius decides to go talk to her late in the evening. He was prepared for something to go wrong, or at least he thought he was, but he was not expecting to be stabbed simply for trying to find the truth.
(That one scene where Nimona disguises herself as Ambrosius except it's actually Ambrosius. And more.)
