I have been digesting this since I read it and I genuinely think it’s one of the most clever fics I have ever read. I had to unfold it like I was taking a complicated piece of origami back apart. It is also very hot and it feels BAD (complimentary). There are a lot of unstated things happening in this fic as it is in the POV of a very young man interpreting the actions of much older men and it’s worth really picking at it like an archeological dig to find all the little petrified things they’ve got lodged in their mental cliffsides.

Searingly high-quality artistic writing. Not sure what to say, this is all atmosphere and lightly explained but poignant suffering. The author's 'Scion' series is also a favorite Silmarillion fic but Fire's Toll left me pleasantly bereft for a bit there.

Meowzy once was and in a very real way remains the reigning sovereign of the English-Language TOS fandom. Many of her fanfictions are lost to time. I'm glad this one stands. "Resentment" kind of creeps up on you; I want to describe what I like best about it but it would be a spoiler and the kind of spoiler that is a disservice to the reader.

Look. There are several reasons why this fic is fantastic, here are the two most important things (to me): delicious, bad-feels villain victory in which our innocent protagonist is skillfully won over by the devious villain, and historical accuracy. Sexy, sexy historical accuracy. Yes there are sex scenes but when I realized this period piece gay fanfiction contained an accurate and well-researched depiction of the psychological and societal ramifications of the year without a summer, that fucking did it for me.

EDIT: This bookmark was on "Sendak's Apocalypse", A Voltron fanfiction that was about Sendak being haunted by the past alone in space. It had high-quality writing and a lot of compassion.

I shrieked with hilarious joy when I ran across this fic (and I fully, sincerely don't remember how.) I began reading with morbid curiosity. I was obsessed about 10,000 words later. Well-researched, compassionate, well-written, and the classical allusions level is at goddamn sexy. You a fan of modern day serial killers? Dump those halfass pretenders in the garbage and immerse yourself in the very specter of France, the bloody captain of the ship to hell, the incorruptible, the unreasonable, the man his fucking self.
