“There was a fire. At the mall. I worked there? At Scoops Ahoy.”
The way he says the last part sounds strange, like it’s really important somehow that Eddie believes him.
“Okay,” he says, then adds, “Is that why you look like that?”
Eddie’s never met a fire with fists, but he wants Steve to tell him what happened—not just assume.
There’s a beat of silence, like Steve’s weighing his options, and Eddie knows a lie’s coming before Steve even opens his mouth.
“Yeah. Building caved in. We made it out—Robin and I. Paramedics checked me over and said I couldn’t drive, so I decided to walk.”
Almost ten miles, Eddie estimates. Sure. Totally normal thing to do in the middle of the night, battered and bruised, after escaping a fire.
But he’s pretty sure that’s all he’s going to get, so he settles on, “Good thing I came along, then.”
“Yeah.”

Husk wasn't the only member of the hotel who was more than capable of functioning when he was a bottle (or more) of whisky deep. Mimzy's claims of Alastor's ability to pound whisky like a sailor weren't for naught – though there were sadly no dance floors in sight to prove the veracity of the rest of her story.
Only a cheerful, rather small cyclops who was beyond ecstatic to have Alastor helping her organise her pins – a task which he had initially sighed at, thinking it something of a waste of an evening – but soon undertook with great enthusiasm.
And so it was that when Vox walked in, it was to find the following, rather incongruous sight; Alastor on his knees on the floor, carefully peering at two sewing needles which, to the untrained eye, looked near identical.

Summary
It seemed that, unlike Alastor – Vox didn’t move around much whilst sleeping.
He supposed it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. To turn onto his side would involve twisting his neck the complete ninety degrees, and not everyone could be blessed with the remarkable flexibility Alastor enjoyed.
If by flexibility one meant dislocating, breaking and re-knitting their bones, of course – but he wasn’t going to quibble with semantics. That was but one part of his skill set, and he was also impressively flexible without having to resort to those methods.

Summary
Upon attempting to enter Angel’s room after arriving back at the hotel, Alastor had been quite unceremoniously turned away at the door. Husk had had the audacity to bar him entrance, hands planted firmly on either side of the frame and wings spread wide, his ears lowered.
He wasn’t exactly snarling at Alastor, not any longer – he mostly looked exhausted, mumbling something about not wanting to stress Angel out while he was barely conscious – which seeing Alastor would undoubtedly do, if his previous reaction was anything to go by.
He’d made to head to the lobby, or perhaps even to the staff kitchen to prepare a late lunch, but Lucifer had firmly told him not to ‘loom’ - or he’d frighten away the guests they still had. Alastor was quite certain he wasn’t doing any intentional looming, but decided, this time, to pick the path of least resistance.

Stars burst behind Alastor's lids for a moment, the resounding crack of his skull hitting the metal doors of the elevator making him wonder if it might actually have been split open. That would be all he needed – how many more injuries could he sustain before he was considered little more than a medical cadaver?
The fur on his ears stood on end, a few strands of his hair floating up from his face as the air suddenly became charged, and he squinted open his lids against the painfully bright glare of not only Lucifer's golden magic rolling off of him, but Vox's electricity crackling over his frame, a snarl locked onto his screen as he took a step towards them.
Towards them – Alastor's eyes widened, in spite of the glow.

Alastor awoke with a start when he heard his door slam open, blinking blearily in the bright red light pouring through his window. He was still on his couch – mostly, at any rate, one leg flung over the arm of it and the other dangling on the floor, and the only reason the light hadn't already woken him was because he'd had his other arm thrown across his eyes - precisely to stop that from happening.
It had been a long and eventful night, and he was exhausted.
Finishing the rest of the bottle of rum Vox had brought over certainly hadn't hurt.

Rosie had been more than willing to come over as soon as Alastor explained what he'd needed, despite his protests that it could wait until morning if she had already retired for the evening. And she hadn't even broached the subject of payment – if he survived another century, he surely couldn't do enough for her to make up the value of what she was giving him for free.
If she'd been surprised to see Vox at his home, she didn't show it. She just took in the blood – Alastor's blood – staining his lapels, the hang-dog expression Alastor gave her, and the perfectly straight antenna sitting atop Vox's head – and made a low, considering noise in her throat before placing the basket she'd brought onto the table.
“You sure about this, Alastor? It's potent stuff,” she warned, doubt creeping into the edges of her voice. Vox frowned down at the tightly packed, dainty bottle, wrapped in enough cotton wool that Alastor could have stuffed a pillow for his currently non-existent bed.

Alastor truly could not catch a break.
He couldn't even use Sunday to properly rest, despite officially having the day off, as he needed to comb through the guest records and see if any of the sinners would meet the ill defined standards that would mean they'd reached redemption.
He also had Vox's notes to go through, and whilst he suspected the man would be understanding if he explained how busy he'd been, he thought he may also be a little disappointed, and he really didn't want that. With all the help Vox had given him, he needed to prove that he wasn't entirely a dead weight in this rela- friendship.

With a static filled sigh, he flipped open the book to the first diagram, a frown line immediately creasing his brows as he rechecked the cover, double checking that this was, in fact, written in English.
