A short pause, before Conju spoke again, with uncharacteristic hesitation. "It is likely that he would not realise that you were there, should you, at any point, wish to see for yourself that your orders for him to remain abed were followed."
Note: This Touch AU takes its canon divergence point from a scene in the Embers series fic Unquenchable, which is set shortly after Petty Treasons and deals with Kip's episode of bonebreak fever mentioned in Hands of the Emperor. It's written as a standalone - it's not necessary to read any of the Embers fics to follow this one - though Unquenchable does give Kip's pov of some of the early scenes if that's of any interest.

The note had been short, blunt, and accompanied by a lock of Dora’s dark hair. It demanded Cliopher’s presence, alone, under a certain tree in the Palace gardens, before the first hour of the morning. He was to bring his seals of office.
There had been some argument, of course. Cliopher had overruled it.
In which Cliopher is surprised to find that his Radiancy has less respect for the protocols than for his Lord Chancellor's safety - or his own - and must travel through his lord's memories to rescue him from the ensuing curse.

Summary
When the eclipse ends on the Day of Black Sun, Aang presses on to face the Fire Lord... and loses. Katara, Sokka, Toph, and Zuko are left to grieve and defend the world on their own. They take on the roles of the Painted Lady, the Blind Bandit, the Blue Spirit--and Sokka, reluctant traveler between the Spirit World and the material world--in order to nudge the Fire Nation towards peace, battle Ozai's armies, and protect the group of six newborn waterbenders that includes the next Avatar. Meanwhile, Azula is abandoned by her father to fulfill the thankless task of ruling the Fire Nation while he pursues further glory.
