Summary
Stanford Pines has missed a lot in his thirty years of nonconsensual multiverse hopping. This includes the changes the DSM (and society) has undergone, a fact he realises as he attempts to research Mabel's new diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder - one which becomes increasingly relevant as he contends with the ever-increasing chances that he is autistic.
Basically, Ford realizes he's autistic and has to deal with recontextualizing his past sixty-something years of life with this new information, very loosely based off personal experience.
Sidenote, I hate that the puzzle piece is so associated with abelist assholes, it would've been so thematically appropriate to give this fic a puzzle related name for its self discovery themes.

Summary
Stanley Pines, twenty-eight years old, has had a life full of ups and downs- so, so many downs. He’s living a shitty apartment, is running low on money and owes big payments to several influential gangsters. In short, life’s not looking too great.
And to top it all off, the apocalypse has begun.
Now Stan has only one thing on his mind: get himself and his family to New Jersey as quickly as possible. Only it’s not as simple as it seems. But picking up the weirdest family of hitchhikers won’t deter him, nor will the goons hunting him down, nor will the fact that Ford isn’t picking up calls anymore.
Yet as he travels across the country to get back to Glass Shard Beach and reunite with his parents after so long, one thing is weighing on Stan’s mind.

But Ford didn’t get to find out what Stan would’ve said. A particularly violent jolt shook the metal frame of the portal, and Stan, with a wide-eyed final look that Ford didn’t know how to decipher, slipped.

It's been almost thirty years since Shifty crawled out of the lab like a zombie rising from the grave, since Stanford Pines fell beyond their reach. Thirty years of almost nightly work on a portal that refused to obey their and Stan's commands, no matter what they did. Thirty years since the start of the Mystery Shack and Shifty's alter ego, the unlikeable co-manager of said Shack. Hope is starting to wear thin, and frustration is running high.
But when a pair of twins begin to stumble upon the mysteries of the town, there might be something left to find after, be they solutions or secrets. Secrets that might as easily destroy Shifty as they could save them.
