The Sally Donovan fic of my heart. Does what I tried to do in 'Freak,' but is infinitely better.
"And of course, it's also personal. Little things, the sort that are annoyances once or twice but add up over time, the mathematics of hatred: it's the way he smirks at her like he's seconds away from spilling all her secrets; how he calls her Sally instead of Donovan, without her permission (you don't hear him calling Lestrade by his first name, nor Anderson, oh no, it's strictly their surnames, sometimes their titles); his sneering implications (the state of your knees, Sally, like it's any of his business, like Anderson isn't equally blameworthy for fucking around behind his wife's back); how he solves her cases and gives them to her, wrapped up neatly, as if she couldn't have done it herself (might have taken longer, but - ), as if he expects her to take the credit. She's not going to do that, she's Sergeant Donovan and she'll solve her own goddamn cases, thanks." -

Jane's in Asgard, and everything runs on magic. But she's a scientist, and there's got to be an explaination. Right?
Jane/Thor fluff with a big side of Jane/science. Inspired by the second trailer, will no doubt not match canon once Thor2 is out.

No one living seems to know what M's real name was.
Excerpt: "So they write 'M' on her headstone and it gets super-awkward in the office after that and everyone just keeps calling Mallory Mallory in spite of the thirty-odd memos that come out from higher up reminding them of the importance of secrecy and discretion and what is the point of having code names if you're all just going to ignore them goddamnit. It's just too weird though because Mallory is M but he's not M."

"I'm driving first," Sally said. "Guv can take over after me. If we're all still mad enough to be at this after that, John can drive third shift. Then the freak, if we decide we can risk it."
"John doesn't drive," said Sherlock.
"Then what's John along for?" Sally protested. Which Greg reckoned had to be just Sally trying to wind Sherlock up. She knew better. All night in a car with Sherlock was bad enough. All night driving round and round the M25 looking for a killer, with Sherlock deprived of John Watson, sounded like a new circle of hell.

Excellent character voices.
Excerpt: "'I did not,' she scoffs (but she did, for that one, horrible second, clutching the phone tight to her ear, as he talked, obliviously, she'd assumed, about the next stage of his plan, his stupid plan, and the Jane she remembers wouldn't, she knew, the Jane who was all strawberries and trust falls and birthday ponies, but this Jane can lie to her for the better part of a year, can torture men remorselessly. This Jane is conscience-less, and she doesn't know him
(or maybe she's known him all along))." -

"And so Millie found herself writing “Christmas is not a heathen tradition,” two hundred times after dinner. At the very end, after she’d written all two hundred lines, Millie couldn’t stop herself from adding, 'What counts as heathen depends very much on perspective,' to the bottom of the page." -

"People think she’s just his secretary and she finds that endlessly amusing. Not laugh out loud stomach roiling funny, she’s not that sort of person, but instead the kind that makes her feel slightly smug and ends up with her smirking at people. She’s trained herself now though that her smirk just looks like a polite smile, otherwise someone would have filed a complaint about her by now. No one files complaints against Miss Moneypenny though. And not only because she’s the one who handles the complaint forms."

I love the author's take on Natasha and Maria's reluctant and gradual friendship; it's so rare that we see this sort of thing focused on in the media or in fic. The characterizations are excellent, the writing flows well, there's some fascinating backstory information, and there is sentiment without sentimentality.

Excerpt: "Professor Minerva McGonagall never knew that the Muggles were to blame. Well, Muggles studies to be precise. And the fact that Sirius Black could somehow associate Sherlock Holmes and the Scouts. But she would later recall those few weeks as some of the most nerve-wracking in her experience as a teacher."
Basically, the Marauders decide to be "perfect angels" for a few weeks, and drive their teachers batty in the process. Also, there's a genuinely original prank, and Peter is a valued friend rather than a useless lump. Warning: This fic was written pre-OotP, so there are a couple of canon inconsistencies.
