“Sorry, babe,” Keith says. He even smiles, no doubt proud of himself.
And Lance knows it’s his fault. He started it, after all, but at least the biting term of endearment made sense when he was the one doing it. Keith had been talking to him like they were some old married couple. The kind who’ve been married too long and don’t love each other anymore and gripe over meaningless shit, only managing to piss each other off even further.
That’s why Lance called him dear. Because it made sense in the situation. It was a calculated insult. A strategic jab.
Keith, on the other hand, is weaponizing the term of endearment without any rhyme or reason, simply to get back at Lance.
Or: Keith and Lance have gotten into the habit of using pet names as condescending insults. They're not really terms of endearment.

“Will it keep me out of prison?”
“Maybe. Maybe the both of us. For now. Ideally.”
“Then yes.”
Crowley’s expression tightened, and Aziraphale wasn’t sure if Crowley wanted to cry, or laugh. “You really, really won’t like it.”
“I’ll like prison less.” He responded plainly.
Crowley’s face twisted into something soft at first, just for a second, before searing into a careful little smirk, and Aziraphale knew that smile, that Cheshire cat smile, much too well to not be cautious.
“Crowley, dear. What are you doing on the floor?”
He cleared his throat. “Angel. Remember when I said you wouldn’t like it? Well, uh, here we are.” His smile grew awkwardly, apologetically, and Aziraphale had a sinking feeling about it.
“Angel. Will you marry me?”

Pressed neck to ankle in Kirishima’s bed, Katsuki stares at the ceiling and relishes the feeling of finally having him like this. Giddy at the reality that he loves Eijirou, and he loves Katsuki. It makes him feel dizzy and warm and so fucking whole. If he needs to take on the world tomorrow he can, strength flows through him, happiness saturates him.
“Kats?” Eijirou hums, breath brushing at the side of Katsuki’s face where the other boy has turned in his arms to look at him.
“Huh?”
“I want you to meet my moms. Would you be okay with that? We’ve been friends for years, but I always spent the nights at your house, and somehow you always just managed to miss them.”
“Yeah. Fuck yeah. Take a weekend just for that?”
Eijirou smiles until his eyes crinkle up. “I’ll call ‘em tomorrow.”

Crowley probably should have seen it coming, in hindsight.
He shouldn’t have been as surprised as he was, at any rate. It had been three months since the Apocalypse, after all, and almost two months since he and Aziraphale had officially gotten together romantically. They were still very much in their honeymoon phase (which Crowley thought was completely justified— he and Aziraphale had spent six thousand years denying feelings for each other, scared of the consequences, so he figured they were entitled to at least a few centuries of shameless PDA).
But still, despite the fact that he and Aziraphale hugged each other and kissed each other all the time, and Crowley knew for a fact that Aziraphale loved him, he was stilled floored the first time Aziraphale called him ‘dearest.’

He sits in numb silence as the doctor tells him he'll never be able to use his quirk again. That his injuries will never heal properly, he fucked up. His parents aren't there, but they never really have been. Fatgum reaches across the bed and squeezes his hand. Regret flashing through the older man's eyes. Kirishima would race to assure him that it isn’t his fault, but he feels nothing. Just cold. He can't turn and comfort his mentor. He can hardly look at him.
"Are you sure there isn't anything we can do?" Fatgum asks the doctor quietly. A sad shake of a head seals the deal. Kirishima felt a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry young man."
Kirishima is sorry too.
or Kirishima never recovers from his fight with Rappa. His body no longer support his quirk and on bad days his weight. He leaves UA and becomes a teacher in an elementary school. He feels lost and lonely until a certain hero steps back into his life.

But Keith has been watching him out of the corner of his eye for a while now, finding a secret sort-of solace in the fact that even Lance is sitting on the edge of the couch, biting his lip raw with anxiety for the next plot twist of the movie. It’s a beautiful kind of irony.
“I would. Ghosts aren’t real.”
“I’m literally sitting right here.” Lance counters, but there’s no real bite behind the words. Keith shrugs his shoulders, tossing another handful of popcorn into his mouth.
“Horror movie ghosts aren’t real.”
“You don’t know that.”
