The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

“You smell like salt,” Chip sniffles.
“Everything smells like salt out here, Chip.” With Gill’s hands still on Chip’s shoulders, the triton begins to slowly peel him off of his chest.
Chip stands up, and one of Gill’s hands drops, the other still staying on the brunet’s left shoulder, not trusting him to be able to keep himself steady.

“Hi,” Chip whispered once more, voice light and airy.
Gill smiled and he squinted just a tad. Enough so that Chip could see the happiness just through the twinkle in his eyes. It wouldn't surprise Chip if he looked the same.
“Hi,” Gill whispered back. His mouth barely moved from his smile and he never took his eyes off Chip.

Gillion let out a relieved sigh and turned away to give his friend some privacy. In the quiet cabin, he heard Chip’s shallow, uneven breathing. The breathing of someone trying to conceal pain. Gill knew that feeling all too well.
“Okay,” Chip said after a moment. “You can look.”
Gillion turned around and inhaled sharply. The other man’s upper back and what he could see of his sides were covered in various shades of bruises.
“Gods,” Gill muttered, sitting on the bed behind Chip. “You’ve been binding this way for years?”
“That bad, huh?” Chip laughed nervously with a wince.
