"You look exactly the same," Eddie says with tears in his eyes. "How is that even possible?"
"I don't know," Buck says, his thumb swiping across Eddie's knuckles. "I don't understand it."
He may be the same, but looking at Eddie, Buck can see the years on him. His hair is a bit different, the creases by the corners of his eyes just a bit deeper. There's a new scar on his right hand that Buck hasn't seen before.He'd know these hands blind, but it takes him a moment to notice it still. His fingers brush over it once, and then again before he actually looks down and sees the thin golden band wrapped around Eddie's ring finger. Then he just—stares at it, stupidly, for a second. Before Eddie pulls his hands back, and leaves Buck's hanging empty in the space between them.
"You're married," he says.

Summary
Buck looks at him, then, and it’s like Eddie can read his every thought, can see in his eyes the want, the need, the desperation, and Buck feels flayed under his heavy gaze. Like he knows that Buck wants to kiss the curve of his mouth on sleepy mornings, hold his hand beneath tables, fall asleep wrapped in his warmth.
That he wants to make a home with him, fill it with love—with a family.
Looks at him like he knows Buck wants to get on his knees for him. That he would, this very second, if Eddie asked.
Buck takes a step closer, bringing them toe to toe.
“You’re fucking—” he whispers, just shy of a rasp, “you’re fucking leaving, Eddie.”

Buck made a show of crossing his heart, brows still raised curiously.

But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.

Summary
He knows he could have called Maddie and she would have been there, though the memory of her disappointment last time stopped him. As for everyone else—even if he weren’t prohibited from talking to them by his lawyer, Buck doubts anyone would have come. The last time they talked was when they ran into each other in the grocery store a week back, and, since Buck is not eager for a repeat of that interaction, he doesn’t even consider calling anyone in to hold his hand for what is, he tells himself, probably just another little blip on his road back to the 118.
He is able to convince himself of this up until the moment Dr. Gutierrez walks into his room and says, “Well, Evan, you just can’t seem to do anything the easy way, can you?”
Because, as it turns out, there is a circumstance under which a tiny clot that doesn’t cause you to vomit blood in front of all of your friends and family is worse than three big ones that do: that circumstance is called ‘being on blood thinners.’

When the 118 find out about Buck’s secret thirst account on Instagram – to raise fire safety awareness, obviously – they make fun of him the appropriate amount and move on. Eddie, who has had some recent and birthmark-shaped revelations about his feelings, finds it a little harder to do the same.
Of course, Eddie would never invade Buck’s privacy by searching for and finding the anonymous account. Or looking at all the uploaded photos late at night. Or even directly messaging Buck’s secret account. That would be weird, because he’s certainly not planning on doing anything about his newfound attraction.
However, anonymous account @elbombero118 has no such limitations.

Buck knew that there was something currently wrong with his stomach. He just couldn’t pinpoint what.
It had been almost a month of random pains in his belly, particularly in the center, migrating to the right side. The pains tended to be on the mild side and only lasted for a few days, sometimes going away for a day or two before coming back. While uncomfortable, it was nothing Buck considered to be too alarming. Maybe he ate something bad, too much dairy, or maybe all those warnings people gave you about food sensitivities becoming prominent after you reach 30 were coming to fruition.

He gasps for breath and it feels like a reflex - like coming up for air after being sucked under. Like a desperate, manic thing.
He’s safe, he knows that. Knows he was never really in much danger anyway. But the sound of it all - the waves, the rain, the crashing and the thundering - it echoes in his head, ricochets through his bones. It lives inside of him, he guesses, even after all these years. That fear, the exhaustion, the crippling terror of finding the surface only to realise that Christopher was gone.
He rubs at his sternum, tries to breathe deeply, tries to blink away the memories of the day the water nearly took everything from him.
