It wasn’t unknown to the rest of Cognito that Brett’s family was… Not the greatest. It was kind of an unspoken rule to not speak about it in case it brought up bad memories, but Brett didn't seem to notice anything or show any signs of trauma. It was still for the best though. He may not show it, but it’s there. It’s always been there.

Ray mulled over the horrific words. Longing to know if Henry had caught on and was just saying that to ensure the act. Or if the kid truly believed it and all his words to be true.
The thought was heartbreaking enough that it nearly had him breaking the act - calling himself out on his own bluff in an effort to reassure Henry.
''Is that true?'' Drex asked, eyeing Ray with a cruel smile.
Ray took a deep breath.
''He's right, Drex. He is just a sidekick and, honestly, a terrible one, as I said before he's nothing but an obligation.''

Everyone is together for a big not-quite-Thanksgiving meal a month after the Gate is closed. When the main dish is ruined, Joyce is worried there won't be enough food to go around. Steve is worried he's never going to live down that he's got a turkey ready to go in his trunk.
He brings it in anyway.
...his trunk has more containers than he could probably fit on the Byers' countertop. The main thing taking up space is a carefully wrapped roasting pan with the turkey he made and brought over before realizing that was ridiculous.

"Give the diamonds back, Fundy," he heard. Fundy's eyes opened as best as they could.
His everything hurt. His head was in pain, throbbing harshly. He could hear the blood flowing in his skull like a set of river rapids.
He saw green, the light of the sky making him cry out with discomfort. Crows circled the sky in a large group. Maybe he's dead? Only when he moved his paws to his eyes to block the sun did he realize that his back hurt whenever he moved.
He felt fingers digging pulling at his arms, he tried to speak as someone dug into his sleeves, taking the 2 diamonds from his possession.
"H-hey-"
"You little shit," he heard someone reprimand him, and only when his eyes fully adjusted did he see the robed man he had never gotten to know as his grandfather.
He wasn't much of a grandfather.
"I knew you were awful, but stealing and lying?" He pocketed the diamonds, "your father would be disappointed."
