Featuring: a reluctant spy, an unlikely friendship between a ghost and a lonely student, a portrait, very few friends, several very lengthy conversations about soul magic, and far too many Horcruxes.
(Or, an attempt to answer the question, if someone intelligent was sent back through time, armed only with the word 'Horcrux' and a general knowledge of the main timeline––not to mention a keen understanding of the Hogwarts curriculum––could that person logic his way to defeating the Dark Lord? Only time will tell).

Arguably the last thing Maddie Fenton would have expected to happen today, however, is to come across a crying Phantom. A Phantom who not only doesn't bother to run away, but actively surrenders to her, volunteering, with a blanket permission, for her to do, quote, "anything she wants" with him for her research.
Maddie is no fool; she can tell something is deeply off about this situation from the start. But obviously she can't turn down a once in a lifetime opportunity like this, right?
...or maybe she is a fool, after all. Because little does she know that what happens next will force her to question everything she thinks she knows about ghosts.
