With their shoulders pressed together, and their limbs all flailed on top of each other, it felt like the bustling world outside didn’t exist; nothing existed past the four worn walls of the hospital room, and their combined warmth. The way sunflowers gravitate towards the sunrise, the way lilies caress the waters’ surface, the way sweetpeas entangled themselves with a worn fence; they sat together in harmonious silence, milking the tender tranquilness of simply existing.
“Hey, do you remember?” she started, quiet and fragile, like any sounds would break apart their equilibrium, “When we first met. We’d sit together just like this, on the train. Talking about Ectoplasm’s stupid homework on standard integrals, our ambitions to be a hero, our fears and worries..” When they were still so young. When life hadn’t reared its gruesome head into their veins, dredging up every last drop of their celestial youth and starlight.
