Summary
At the end of the very first Council meeting, Alec hadn't expected to walk away with the offer for two different dates from two different men. But he finds himself surprisingly eager to cash in on both. For the first time in his life, he doesn't have to worry about what people are going to think, what the Clave might say, or what anyone else might be. He's out and, maybe not vocally proud the way that others are, but not ashamed. If he wants to go out and enjoy himself, there's no reason that he shouldn't.
That doesn't mean he's not nervous, though.

Summary
Alec had always thought he’d known fear.
Not just as a concept, but a living, breathing thing that existed inside him almost constantly. Those around him had taught him fear as a child. They’d told him of the demons that lurked in the dark, ready to take out anyone and everyone dear to him, and he’d been taught to work past that fear so he could do what needed to be done. They’d taught him to acknowledge it, embrace it, and move beyond it, until Alec did it instinctively, until that fear became almost nothing. A small thing barely even acknowledged.
Alec had thought he’d known what fear was. That he’d felt, breathed, tasted it, a memory that would always remain burned into him in those deep, dark places where he hid all his hurt.
He was wrong.
Every time he thought he’d been truly afraid, life seemed to find a way to rise up and prove to him just how wrong he was. How much more fear there was for him to feel.
It’d been Alec’s almost constant companion this past week. Ever since the evening where he’d gotten a phone call from Catarina, and she’d said those words to him, the words that had changed everything: “Magnus is missing.”

Summary
The day that Magnus met Alexander Lightwood was a day that he would never forget. No matter how long he lived – or how much Alec might wince over it afterward.
Magnus had dreamed about what it would be like to look at a dragon who was meant to be his. One who would stand by his side for whatever eternity was granted to them. Someone to face those long years and make them feel just a little less empty.
Never once in all of his fantasies had Magnus imagined that he might find his dragon while said dragon was trying to kill him.

Summary
When Isabelle Lightwood came to his door asking for Magnus' help in finding her missing brother, Magnus didn't really hold out any hope that he'd actually be able to find the man. It'd been three years, after all. Three years since Alexander Lightwood had vanished off the face of the earth the night before his wedding to Ms. Lydia Branwell. And everything that Isabelle told him only furthered Magnus' belief that the young man had run away from a life he didn't want and a duty heavy enough to crush anyone.
But, she was willing to pay good money for his services, and something about this case tugged at him. Something that he couldn't quite let go of.
So he set out to do his level best to find the elusive Alexander Lightwood, not knowing just how much that one choice was going to change his life.

Summary
For the first time in a long time, things finally felt like they were going well. The shadow world had settled down after everything with Lilith and Jonathan, the Clave seemed to be making a turn for the better, and Alec’s life seemed to finally be on track. He had great friends, a better relationship with his parabatai, and a husband he loved more than life itself and who loved him in return.
He should’ve realized something would happen to mess that all up.
An attack during a routine patrol leaves Magnus caught in a magic no one understands, the life-force slowly draining out of him. They’ve exhausted every resource they have to try and save him. But after weeks and weeks with no cure in sight, and Magnus’ condition slowly worsening, those closest to him seem ready to give up.
All except Alec.
With all hope lost, Alec goes to one last group of people to try and help him save his husband’s life. But will the price they ask for prove to be too much for him to pay? Or will it be worth it to save the man he loves?

Summary
Things weren’t supposed to end like this.
That was the thought Alec couldn’t quite banish. It clung to him as he was dragged out of his own Institute with the cuffs around his wrists and his people watching on with looks that ranged from shock to horror, with a few here and there of glee. It repeated over and over in Alec’s mind through the night he spent in the Silent City with nothing but the dark and his memories to cling to.
And it was the thought he had now as he stared at Imogen Herondale and the Silent Brother who held the deruning device so calmly in his hands.
Faced with the end of his life and everything he'd ever been a part of, everything he'd ever known, Alec finds that maybe things aren't as over as he thought. They won't be the same, not ever again, but maybe with the help of someone he'd convinced himself he could never have, he can take what was done to him and make it into something even better. Something that, for the first time in his life, he can be proud of.

Summary
Alec Lightwood had grown up hearing all about Guardian Angels. As a nephilim, a group of who venerated the archangel Raziel, the one who had created their race, angels were an important part of their heritage. When a shadowhunter grew old enough to take their first rune, part of their Rune Ceremony was to choose an angel, one to inscribe on the hilt of the blade that would become theirs.
It was all just superstition, though. Angels didn’t actually come down to offer them help or protection. That wasn’t what they did. Angels as a whole were considered hands off. Or, they were…
When Alec was six years old, he met the angel who would lay claim to guardianship over him, circumventing years of tradition and changing the fate of the Shadow World in one fell swoop.

Summary
Alec was willing to do whatever it took if it meant he got to stay with his husband. He'd seen the grief in Magnus' heart. Had watched and held him as he'd cried for lovers of the past who had either been taken from him or chose to leave. And he'd vowed never to put Magnus through that kind of pain.
Magnus just hadn't expected him to find a way to actually do it.

Summary
Dating a dragon wasn't exactly the most common of things. Considering that dragons were pretty much considered extinct, or so well hidden no one could find them, it kind of made sense that no one had ever really heard of someone actually dating one. Unfortunately, that meant that Alec was kind of in unknown territory, even more so than he otherwise would've been.

When Magnus was called to the Institute late one night, he wasn't entirely sure what he expected to happen. Late night calls often meant injured nephilim or some other serious threat. But there was always a chance the new Head had called him in about the wards or some other random shadow world business. Hell, maybe he just wanted a meeting to assert his dominance the same way the last Heads had liked to do.

Summary
From the moment there’d been shadowhunters, there had been the guardians. Those willing to go above and beyond their people, their Institutes. Ones willing to bind themselves through magic and rune with a warlock. To pledge their lives to one another, and to the fight against the hordes of hell.
These days the Guardians weren’t nearly so common. It was rare for a warlock to be able to find a shadowhunter who would willingly do the oath with them. Even if some thought it a great honor in the beginning. that had clearly changed. Now, the only time Alec saw any hint of the peace that was said to once exist between the denizens of the shadow world was at events like these. One week, every five years, where all parties gathered together in a ritual as old as their race.
Alec had been interested, once, until he realized what it would mean. Giving up his life, his Institute, his family? A Guardian had to be prepared to let all of that go. Their life became the whim of their bonded and the War. Where their bonded went, they went. And with a lot of the new rules against Downworlders, that meant that there would be so many places a shadowhunter gave up ever seeing again. He couldn’t abandon his people like that.

Summary
When Alec came back from Alicante, life had seemed to finally be looking up for him. No longer "Acting" Head of the Institute, all of his hard work had finally paid off. He was the youngest official, fully-vested Institute Head in the past 150 years. Something he'd worked damn hard to achieve.
So of course he should've expected for something to happen to change that.
With the introduction of Clary Fray into their lives, and all the chaos she brought with her, Alec came home to an Institute in upheaval. Unsanctioned missions, a search for the Cup, and Valentine's daughter running free. And his very first steps towards trying to fix it all - reaching out to the High Warlock they'd all managed to use for help somehow without paying him - ends with a whole lot more trouble than Clary could've ever brought him.
Alec goes on a journey that starts with pain and ends with a strange bond he never wanted, a husband he never thought he could have, and the chance to finally affect some real changes in the Shadow World.
That is, if they can all survive long enough to see it happen.

"At the very beginning, the orphanage used to be Catarina's and Magnus's project, which is how Magnus knows a lot of the Downworlders living here now, including Maia and Alexander, who are currently the oldest.
Magnus was there years ago, finding children in danger himself or being there helping Cat look after them.
Times have changed since those days, thank gods. There is less suffering, now. Fewer conflicts, fewer demons, fewer orphans. The war is far in the past for the young people living in the now. Still, there are other problems on their minds."Bookmarked by Sara2o2
