On a porch, in the dark, somewhere in Broken Bow, Nebraska, on a random autumn Saturday, Robby brings his cigarette to Dennis' lips, as if it is the easiest thing in the world. But there is so much more to this one act of kindness, in the way his fingers brush against Dennis' lips, the way Dennis looks up at him through his lashes, eyes wide on his parents' porch. Dennis fears he might lose the family that raised him, but he isn't as scared, if it means he might gain a new one.
After Dennis' parents find out that he is trans and has been transitioning ever since leaving for medical school, Dr. Robby offers to drive him home to his parents, to do damage control.

Summary
(Follow up to Killing Loneliness, You should read that before this if you haven't.)
*Upgraded to Explicit for one scene in the Epilogue. Which is easily skippable if that's not your jam and has no effect on the rest of the story.
Charles starts to notice a change in his best friend. He seems lighter and happier. He even seems to be okay with Charles and Crystal being together now. These are all great things, but Edwin has always been stuck in his ways and it has Charles wondering just what has happened to change things now.
But Edwin won't tell him, and it's got him worried. Not to mention there's some cat hanging about the office now that seems to be Edwin's new best friend, whenever Charles goes out with Crystal. The brawn doesn't trust anything about with the mangy little furball. Things really come to a head when Charles is proven right and the cat turns out to be the one person that he doesn't want within five feet of Edwin, and after their past history he can't understand why Edwin doesn't feel the same. What's worse is Edwin is DEFENDING the Cat King!

“What in the world do you think you're doing?” Edwin asks, hands on his hips in the way Crystal says makes him look like a ‘cunty British Karen.’
This startles the man into dropping the shard of glass onto the pavement with a clink. “Fuck! Can't a guy trash his fucking ex's car ‘n peace?”
Edwin, for some reason, is startled by the man's appearance. The first thing he sees are black-lined eyes the color of honey, the golden hue almost glowing in the streetlight. Edwin’s love of mysteries, unfortunately for him, is only rivaled by his love of pretty boys. And while his plan to confront the vulgar vandal was not exactly fool-proof from the start, Edwin realizes he has severely miscalculated how the rest of this interaction would go, because the vandal is fucking gorgeous.

Edwin is a grad student who is sick of his friends trying to help him get over his crush on Charles by setting him up on dates. Thomas is hellbent on destroying his cheating ex's car right outside Edwin's window. Really, Trent hoped Ted would like the sundress, but his stunned, silent reaction is more than he could have ever anticipated, and it settles something deep inside of him that Ted is this intoxicated by him as he moves to fold down beside him, long legs extended in front of him on the blanket, crossing them at the ankles.
Ted studies him, lips parted, for a long, long moment before Trent finally asks, “Are you quite alright, Ted?”
He’s blushing so furiously his face has gone a nearly worrying shade of red. Ted blinks at his chest— his cleavage— for a moment before his eyes flick up to meet Trent’s, and he seems to take a calibrating second to process Trent’s question before he can actually understand he’s being asked anything at all.
“I— Whew,” Ted says, a bit breathless, and Trent’s heart skips a beat. Quite literally, it skips a beat. The things Ted Lasso does to him. “That— That is some dress you got on there, Trent, honey.”

Summary
The Cat King had imagined meeting Edwin again, of course he had. Quite a few times. So many times, in fact, that he's concocted a fair amount of different ways they could potentially see each other again. And yet in all of that time, this had never been the scenario.
Because firstly, Edwin's little buddy Charles is storming into his warehouse, cricket bat at the ready. That's not necessarily a mood killer, considering winding him up while he's already on the edge would certainly be amusing. But Edwin is trailing behind him looking positively...off.
